I often think that vulernable narcissism gets mixed up with borderline personality disorder, there are clear differences, I would love to hear you make a video on this!
@j.d.aengus
@j.d.aengus 2 жыл бұрын
From the research based literature that I've read about borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder, there can be a co-occurrence between BPD and NPD. The two are not mutually exclusive, but rather are related. (From what I understand, narcissism and NPD are distinct from each other. I can't list the distinctions off the top of my head, though.)

I agree! would be interesting to know. I think one difference can be that BPD is often linked to manipulative behaviour and addiction problems.

Vulnerable narcissism - the universal trait/construct, not a type of NPD disorder (subtypes of NPD do not exist in the DSM-V) - is actually a component of borderline personality disorder. It is a component of mental illnesses across the board. Even normies with run-of-the-mill depression tend to be higher in vulnerable narcissism. Keep in mind that "disorder" means that you have maladaptive behavior/cognition. You can, in fact, have borderline personality A.K.A. extreme emotional instability without having BPD. (I've seen research calling this BPT, "borderline personality trait"). Vulnerable narcissism is a measurement of psychological adaptations that are pretty much universally found to undermine an individual's efforts at connecting with others and manifesting themselves. That's part of why DBT is so effective. It teaches borderline people how to deal with their extreme emotions without resorting to vulnerable narcissistic coping strategies in their cognition, behavior, and self-image. If you want to really understand vulnerable narcissism trait, the paper "Vulnerable Narcissism, Forgiveness, Humility, and Depression: Mediator Effects for Differentiation of Self" is dope. I also super love the paper "The targets of all treachery: Delusional ideation, paranoia, and the need for uniqueness as mediators between two forms of narcissism and conspiracy beliefs" which gave me a deeper understanding of this topic.

Hi, I suffer from jealousy quite bad, it’s a horrible feeling I don’t want and can make me sulky and treat my partner badly. I’m not violent but very defensive and not trusting. I didn’t ever control her and was encouraging towards my ex with her goals and helped her achieve them. I was very worried about her social media and someone taking her away from me. She ended the relationship for those reasons. I suffer low self esteem and blame no one but myself for my loss of her. I see a therapist who basically tells me I can’t stop the feelings of jealousy but have to learn to control my reaction to it which is not easy. Ive been working hard on myself since the breakup in the hopes that I can be better when I’m ready to meet someone new. I wish my ex all the happiness in her future even though I feel her loss greatly and still love her. I’m a mess but I’m trying to sort myself out

Dealing with my inner demons is a constant battle that I intend to keep fighting. All the best.

And what about when the abuser is BOTH vulnerable and grandiose? Because my ex was literally both. So what do we call these types of narcissists?

@@magnolia2 Yeah. They always come back sooner or later. You feel like some kind of drug peddlar to them. And it's tough to get away, especially if you care about them. But they'll never give you what you what you want, they'll only ever care about what they need (because they can't satisfy them on their own), and at the end of the day they don't have the energy or even the will to reciprocate. Too busy trying to get that fix.

I would really appreciate a video about retroactive jealousy. Is there a significantly higher risk of abuse, in a relationship with a partner who’s obsessed with one’s past, or body count? My current boyfriend, who I’m in love with, just gets into these fits sometimes, where he will blame me, and make me feel disgusting, for having a one night stand before I ever knew him. Imo, nothing I’ve done has been extremely wild, and I’ve been generally responsible. Pls help

I’m so over people saying Kanye is going to get violent or x Kim. At worst he’s your average narcissist you’d find in any university classroom. He’s no malignant narcissist. But people confuse his mixed mania with severe narcissism. Even Julia Fox just came out to say that he’s harmless (physical abuse wise.) People are coming harder for Kanye’s /posts/than they did for Tory Lanez actually /shooting/ Megan the Stallion. Also, I’d argue that Kim is higher on the narcissism scale than Kanye.

I suspect I've been abused by a narcissistic mom (I'm not a doctor, she hasn't been diagnosed, take with grain of salt) and as much damage as I've taken I also feel like most resources villify narcissists more than they should... it almost feels .. personal? Don't get me wrong, I'm not my mom's biggest fan, but I don't know if making her the villain makes me any better than her. I want to see more content that helps me see narcissits as human too, not just all the ways in which they can be harmful (especially because I've heard children of narcissists are more likely to be narcissists too, and it'd be nice to know me and my siblings are human too).

I feel like I've developed more compassion for others and made progress in my healing journey from following him. He used to work with criminal perpetrators so he is very capable of humanizing some really difficult personality types. You're probably most likely to get this from watching his reactions videos but you may find it in his reactions comments and podcast episodes too.

How if you give too much you become less attractive and maybe boring, and some tips on how to change that mentality, that is usually based on childhood trauma. Do you really need to give less attention and play 'hard to get' to be able to be interesting? Isn't that just fake? I know people want the most what they can't get. Thank you very much!

nice guy syndrome isn’t a thing. what you’re asking is to become an emotionally abusive person to increase your dating pool. yes it will increase, with more unstable and unfulfilling relationships that are predicated on game playing and inauthenticity. Don’t go down that route.

Looking back at when I was younger I can definitely see some of those traits in my behaviour but that has changed after going to therapy; fun fact is I didn't get therapy for that reason (never being diagnosed nor treated for narcissism), it was for something different that led me to finally manage to change my behaviour. Do you have any insights on what I've been trying to explain? 🤔
