This is exactly what I want to build. I'll probably either sand down the panels smoove before painting or just use contact paper. I'd also set the monitor vertical if your planning to play any actual arcade games through MAME.

I would recommend using a primer before you pained it to give it a more arcade feel. There is a website that also offers custom vinyl for graphics. You could also use some resin on the wood to give it that nice glossy smooth feel. All in all great job guys

AS far as finishing/painting, sanding the surfaces might help hide the grain and give a more finished look for low cost vs custom coverings Also, local Mom & Pop dollar stores often have large cans of spray paint for $1-$2, as we have around SE MIchigan, often name branded paint Some of the paints I've seen are textured, which would also cover woodgrain. ALso primers are available Kilz is designed to remove surface imperfections Sanding sealer is another option for filling wood grain. Sanding sealer is often used for model rockets and planes to fill balsa woodgrain prior to paint Of course finding scrap MDF and/or finished plywood on the curb is a win too

U guys did exactly what I did hey lol except I used string to do the curve part but I freestyled the whole thing and surprisingly my side panels look gd. I've just gotta finally put it together. I bought a cheap jigsaw too. Cut it on the carpet in my old unit, vacuumed up the dust, all sweet. I'm gonna buy decals from a proper printing place to do my stickers though. Its the part I'd spend the most on, that and the buttons + joystick. I've got cool ideas for themes too. Seen so many so I've come up with some original ideas. Can't wait to finish it. I got a Raspberry Pi which I'll use till I buy a decent small PC for it. I want to eventually have it play Street Fighter 4 and MKX so yeh the pi3 is great for most arcade games, suprisingly mined slowed down on a couple shmups I've played in it so yeh a PC is the go with Launchbox. Blinkys cool too, its a light program which u can hook music up to and yeh have it as a jukebox too. I want lightgun games too. I'm basically greedy hey lol I want it to be super kickarse. I've researched this and watched tons of vids and I can see the vids where people have gone that extra mile and yeh it shows and is really impressive. Having a plain pi3 in it with different images isn't gd enough lol I've had my pi3 for over 2 years and I've used it tons so yeh I want something crazy. U guys did gd though, at least u finished yours.

If you ever do another one, or heck you could still do it on this one, the edges where you have green on actual cabinets is plastic T-Moulding, the only hard part of using it is cutting the groove it go into, has to be the right with and depth and bet exactly in the center of the edge, but it looks really nice.... that said, until you guy got to the painting part I thought it was t-moulding lol... so great job guys, just a little extra work and the same look but probably cheaper.

Btw you don't even need fancy tools to do this. The tools here cost way too much. You just need a drill (with the right drill bits for the button sizes) and two manual handsaws, one for straight and one for the curves.

fun project. It's a deep rabbit whole to go down.. (I've built full size uprights, old console conversions, ps classic conversion, etc...) On a side note, check your power supply for your PI. The bolt icon in the corner means it's not getting enough power.

Nice. Sadly, unless a person has access to the power tools required to do this, its not cost effect. $100 for the cab parts, $1000 for the power tools. Might be a good way to justify power tools that could be put to use on future projects.
