ORIGINAL INFO: How come event comics never have accurate taglines? This one needs to be, “the one where everyone dies!”
RUMINATIONS: Ultimatum was one of those heavily-requested comics that I always fear is going to end up being either not as bad as they say or just so continuity-heavy that it’d be nearly impossible to explain why it sucks without another video just going into the backstory. And I only enjoy doing those kinds of videos when I’m actually familiar with the material itself, since it’s much easier to summarize stuff that I’m fond of or am at least knowledgeable about. The Ultimate Universe, however? Ehhh, not so much.
It’s not that I’ve never read comics in the Ultimate Universe… it’s that I just don’t CARE. I enjoy it more in theory than execution. The Ultimates I found to be overrated (not bad, just not as good as it’s made out to be), Ultimate X-Men seems to be an excuse to indulge in sadism and uberviolence and other nasty practices that you couldn’t get away with in the mainstream Marvel Universe, and Ultimate Spider-Man… well, Ultimate Spidey is still the best, but me personally I’m no longer interested in teenage Peter Parker and some of the choices they make in places are… baffling. Venom is no longer an alien symbiote, but some kind of cure for cancer gone haywire? Why does that seem LESS plausible than the alien?
But hey, a lot of people love this universe and therefore are deeply affected when stupid crap happens and I can certainly sympathize with that. And thus the ruination of the universe that came: Ultimatum.
