I would like to help you to understand the purpose of remembering the poor through fasting (which is not the only reason we fast, but is the reason focused on here). When we remember what it is like to be hungry, to be weak from that hunger, suffering headache, nausea, hoping for the relief to soon come, it reminds us that even though we are poor, some people don't even have one meal's worth of food, not even a drop of safe water. And when we give charity, we are empathic and give more.
