We have PTSD--post thrips stress disorder! Honestly, the sight or even thought of thrips stresses me out so bad. I literally have nightmares about them. My house had them for about a year and a half. I lost so many plants...like you said, once you go through it, you do everythign you can to avoid it! So happy for you with your beautiful new plants!

I understand where you're coming from not wanting to throw it away. For awhile i kept every single cutting. I felt like the plants deserved to live. If they were trying to live i should do my best for them. My house was overrun with plants and many of the same plant. I tried giving them away. I thought about selling them. But then i got spider mites. I just couldn't keep up. There's only so many people in your life that will want free plants and then they only want so many. Just yesterday i threw away 10 very healthy cuttings. I cried. I stressed over it for weeks before i did it. About an hour after i did it i forgot all about it. My house is cleaner and I'm less stressed. 💚

I will often take my cuttings or plants I don't want anymore and I'll ask my public library or grocery store if I can donate them and let people take them. It's nice as heck to know that they are going with someone else and not in the trash.
@Twinleo1
@Twinleo1 6 ай бұрын
Agreed. It’s ok to trim your plants and throw them away. The ones that grow fast are the ones every store sells all year long so who’s going to buy them or even meet up for them. It’s such a waste of time. I do have coworkers who loved all my cuttings last year but it’s all the same plants again. Unless I’m rooting them to make a fuller pot, I don’t bother anymore.

It was a wish list plant that I can't ever find anywhere! It's now down to wet sticks in a prop box. I don't know if it was too far gone, but I will try! That palli is just so beautiful. Hi, like someone said, cut that jammy and prop. Throw the leaf away. Can thrips invade the root system? Keep it in the bag for three months opening it up for air so rot doesn't take root. Remember, to debug your new Pally. Do you have a good quality magnifier so you can really clearly see any bugs or even fungus. Glad you got a replaced Sexy birthday gift and it blew your heart. I'm new to your channel, so I'm not sure how you feel on the topic of pesticides. Personally, I would treat with spinosad, which is naturally occurring in soil. Spray the plant down and bag it back up. It's safe to use around any pets, but it is harmful to bees in its wet state, but safe when dry. That's the fastest way I have found to get rid of thrips. A systemic in the water might be a good idea, too. I only use those when less aggressive measures aren't working. Im so glad you got a healthy plant you can enjoy while you rehab the other.

I'm glad you had a happy ending nice to see you smile, I'm just done with etsy plant's for a very long time. In the last 4 months I've had 5 bad plant purchases. The first 2 plant's from different shops that were never shipped with no explanation or apology so I got refunded, 1 that was half the size of my thumb had no roots very little variegation on it but sold as a 4" rooted plant with 3-4" leaves, the 4th was mislabeled and the last one was nice and big but had very bad spider mites. There were a lot of good reviews for these sellers too.

Melissa, you need a magnifying glass with a light! It’s way easier to spot pests! Amazon has several to choose from. I don’t know if this would help, but the Bonide systemic granules work on thrips! I had them once and used this and sprayed weekly and I did get rid of them but am still so paranoid I’ll find them and that was a year ago 😂. Your plants aren’t in soil so I don’t know how that would work or if it would, but it brings me great satisfaction to know that the thrips who survive will die as soon as they feed on the plant 😊

Ugh! I feel every bit of your pain. Also, I would've struggled with tossing it as well, but ultimately I too try my best to give everything that's fighting for life a fair chance. Even depriving myself of buying ANY new plants because... it never fails; pests always make a presence shortly after. I end up either finding bugs or stressed to the max assessing for them 😅. Outcome is very similar either way- major anxiety and that's not why I have a house full of plants. My solution was buying a quality grow tent (most commonly used for those illegal plants) which provides the BEST quarantine/isolation environment in a spare bedroom AND the ability to support, and easily control, the best possible *conditions (lighting, humidity, air flow, filtration etc.) that support recovery, or *maintain health during a quarantine period. So for around $300-$600 (entire grow tent kit from Spider Farmer. Not sponsored) I completely eliminated pest anxiety disorder lol. Even when signs of pests do appear on that long awaited wish list plant, I gown and glove when I go inside the tent, zip the door behind me and always save the tent chores for last. Zero pests in my established collection since I got it and I don't risk plant health from unfavorable environmental conditions in an alternative quarantine area. Sorry, long post but I had to share 😁

Your reaction was VALID and so are your feelings!! Anyone who says otherwise has no business even comment on the situation. And at the end of the day, the intention behind revealing the seller was not to necessarily blast them, in my eyes you were just doing your due diligence for your following and yourself as plant keeper and future seller. As customers, we have expectations and if a company isn’t meeting those expectations, we have a right to know. ❤ You have no reason to feel bad, video reviews of businesses are just a new (non discrete) way to report discrepancies to places like the Better Business Bureau.

I know she was so sweet to do this 🥹 ugh, I would keep them outside but I'm afraid the random cold snaps will hurt it. They're definitely staying in the bag for a while and it is sealed extremely well haha.

I'm so happy the seller sent you a plant. There are still so many nice people out here. You're so sweet and caring. I would've gotten upset too. I LOVE my plants and it hurts to see that. I had to throw away a Queen Pothos yesterday after trying to rehab her for months without success. She had mealy bugs. It broke my hurt to throw her away but I tried and didn't think it was going to get any better. I was scared they would go on my other plants. Thank you for the videos. Keep making them 🙏🏻. I love them and I love everything you do from plant shopping to plant potting. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It's so sweet to have 2 people sending you a new one!!! You're so genuine, I can't belive those angry people who say that asking for the plant back and the partial refund is okay... When I watched the video I told my BF : "She's saying the F word and she NEVER does that, like EVER!!! It's bad for sure!"

Thank you! So grateful for them 🥹 haha yeah I don't cuss on camera a lot. ❤ 💯 you are the sweetest! I absolutely agree I can't kill plants/throw plants away. I'm doing this to have happy healthy plant baby. I've been battling thrips for six months and I don't see any now but I know that doesn't mean they're gone. They are the worst! I started nice with soap and mites but at this point it's a full pesticide bug battle to get rid of them.

💚🌱💚🌱💚 Thrips are a long process! I think they go dormant and wait for good conditions and pop back out months later. I wouldn’t put that thing with you plants for a long time. Maybe get it it’s own Tupperware for isolation and put it outside, in your garage or something where it can get light.

I understand why you didn't though. I kept ivies once that repeatedly got spider mites. That was in my early days of plant collecting and I thought the leaves were just so pretty. They did eventually have to go. I've gotten a little more open to composting plants that just don't grow well or are endangering the rest of my collection with their pests. I try not to feel guilty about it. I hope you can bring her back beautiful and thrip free!

I'm surprised that you had so much feedback defending the seller! Thrips are THE menace of the plant community and for the seller to essentially try and gaslight you into thinking it wasn't her responsibility and mistake is outrageous. I think it only would have been reasonable for her to ask for the plant back if she paid for the return shipping. I am really glad that you have gotten such lovely pallidiflorum specimens now!!
