I like seeing these unboxing and review videos. If enough of these get posted perhaps sellers will be more on point with the grading. I don’t buy much online anymore. Bad grading and less than straight forward sellers caused too many headaches. I loved seeing the joy when you opened the second package. Glad it worked out after all.

Thanks, Topper! Appreciate it. Yep, buying online is often a frustrating experience. I much prefer buying in person. Luckily, things are starting to open up here in Wisconsin and I'm taking some vacation time next week, so...I'm looking forward to going out digging! Skol, Jeff

Thanks, Rick! I love Bing. Especially early Bing. Just finished volume one of Gary Giddins' 2 volume biography of Bing. Gained a whole new perspective on the pivotal role that he played in early jazz, recording, movies, pop-culture, etc. Super cool. Looking forward to diving into volume 2. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

The word Near Mint scares me. In my collection if I play an album once it is Near Mint. To me it should be perfect vinyl. We all look at things differently. Definitely not New Mint in my books. Very informative Jeff

I am at 4:30 of this video and already have 3 issues with the first seller. 1. The seller has contacted the buyer to say that he has changed his grading system since he first listed the records (Goldmine standards have also changes since I first started to collect an not to the betterment of the grading scale. 2. The record was shipped inside the jacket and 3. The cover which was listed as VG+ looks to be VG (I have not heard the grade from the buyer yet).

Hi, James! Some sellers are fantastic and earn my trust. Others...nope. Buying on line can definitely be a crap-shoot. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

A question about discogs. Is the content verified by some official body or does the "VC" somehow regulate if a submission is accurate? Case in point: I bought an album from my local shop, the owner has posted it online on discogs. He sold it to me directly. It was listed as a sealed, certain 1st press. I opened it last night, and according to the label color on discogs it is a repress. Now this is based on other albums for sale. What do you think?

Hey, Kevin! Great question. Yeah, Discogs is basically a public database and members (those with accounts) may add, edit, delete, entries. Entries do have a community rating/approval system that's supposed to help verify that the information is correct, but the reliability of that is often spotty at best, in my opinion at least. In some cases the Discogs info is super helpful and right on, but often I treat it like Wikipedia - someone's opinion. My biggest complaint with Discogs are the duplicate entries. So often people add "new" entries for an item without checking to make sure it's not already on Discogs. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

I share your pain. I've been buying on Discogs and some of the lps are nowhere near the grading. In anycase, an lp that looks great may play horribly and even if the seller has play tested the lp it can still not be great. It's weird, some of the cheapest lps have been the best. I will now only go for lps described as near mint. So far it looks as though VG means it's going to be awful, VG+ usually aren't and many are optimistically graded near mint. Some are terrific, it's just a real crapshoot.

Hello! It's really frustrating, because if grading is done well, from NM on down, then VG really would be VERY GOOD, i.e. records in lesser condition but that will play well and still be enjoyable. And G would be where things get dicey. But, unfortunately, many folks grade records NM that are really only VG+ and then the whole scale slides down from there. Near Mint records should be rare, because so few records are actually like new. That's why they command top dollar. Anyway...I can rant about this topic all day long. The 1st maybe borderline NM, but the seller has to clean it to be sure. Sellers that do not clean records before sending need to be avoided. Not NM in that condition. Deserves a negative review. The fact he said keep them for free shows he was not confident in his grading.

Hey, Mike! Yeah, I don't see how sellers can accurately grade records that aren't clean. You just can't. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

@@ToneInGrooves Some sellers, with justification, argue under 5$ records should not be cleaned, at least on a machine. I only sell more expensive records online as not economically ideal to sell under 5-10 $ records. To list, find, clean, ship one vinyl takes on average 20-25 minutes if you do it correctly. But your seller presumably takes a rough scan and just ships them out without much checking.
