It's an alright figure, but I might pick this purely because his role in the CW was so memorable. Also he actually does use the hood in season 7 of the show, but it's very brief, it's in the scene where he is talking to the Pykes thought a hologram when Ahsoka is sneaking around the area.

Very thoughtful and articulate. You expressed almost all of the concerns that I have in a very positive way. Because this is my first Darth Maul figure I really like it overall. If I had collected the previous versions, I think I would feel differently.

I haven't gotten mine yet; I will probably at some time pose him shirtless, will just have to see. When I get him I will have all three releases, so eager to compare them. If its anything like the Phantomj Menace one, tthe light-up double light saber is useless - the battery will last only 15 minutes. That arm only carries three batteries (like a single blade light saber) but powers two lights. And the red LED light doesn't light up the red blade very well.

I feel like they definitely wanted to include a light up dark saber arm for the other arm etc, definitely a semi lazy effort but at the same time a good looking figure 😳🤔

I do agree, this release seems a bit sloppy from the body, hands, light up led arm.

What an amazing review and analysis. You were critical but fair, which really prompted me to pay close attention to your thoughts. I actually had the Clone Wars Maul on pre-order and after watching some unboxing videos I decided to pass on it due to having the Solo Maul in my collection. I absolutely love the look of Maul in The Clone Wars but I liked his look in Solo even more so, for me, it wasn't worth picking up. My thinking was the money could go towards another release. I do still contemplate it simply to have a different version of him but for now, it's a pass.

I have the other two Maul’s in my collection. I was most excited for this one given the focus on clone wars and my love for it. Unfortunately after I saw the production photos and the some reviews like this I was disappointed to the point that I cancelled my order entirely. As you said here, it is a lazy release on an epic character and I couldn’t justify spending so much on a mediocre figure when there is so much available right now. I wish they did this one justice.

This will be my first darth maul figure and I’m still excited to get him in hand. I agree with your critiques though. Too bad HT didn’t put more effort into this release.

Great review, BC! I bought this because I already had the other two Mauls and I love The Clone Wars, so it just made sense. But I was so disappointed in it that I ended up returning it. :(

I have this figure and I love it. It’s my only Maul but I’m also very attached to his appearance in TCW. I know it’s objectively the worst figure out of the three and I do have issues with it. The body is too small, he looks scrawny. The figure looking exactly the same as the Solo sculpt comes off as lazy. Overall, it just seems like this is a half-baked half finished figure. As I said, I do love it and if I didn’t have it, I would opt for one of the other two. But for my Clone Wars representation, it scratches that itch.

Solid honest review, just curious what is the material of his tunic? Would it degrade over the years?

This figure is a very disappointing release for me.I feel the figure was rushed without much care and attention especially dangling a carrot of a shirtless Maul figure which a lot of collectors have been wanting for a while but sadly Hot Toys did not execute the figure well enough.The head sculpt although is nice but come on Hot Toys you could of give us something new, especially for Maul.I own all three Darth Maul's and this particular version is my least favourite. As always my friend, what a class, beautifully shot and presented none biased review, we need more honest reviews just like this on KZfaq, not all Hot Toys figures are 100% perfect.

I agree 100% I picture clone wars maul ruling mandalore so the darksaber would have been a smart inclusion. Does seem like they dropped the ball a bit. Just picked one up used on ebay and It'll be my first hot toys figure. Couldn't pass it up for the price listed.

I was planning on skipping this, I did not like the HS, the body looks horrible and I wasn't at all a huge fan of the character/costume design of him in CW. However, a few things changed my mind and I decided to get him because 1) I took over someone's PO from my local dealer and will be getting him for $315CAD / $250USD 2) I recently god DX17 Phantom Menace Maul and will be using the spare head on this release 3) I have seen some good futzing with his shoulder fabric, hood, with PM HS that makes him look acceptable

Trying to cut back on the amount of toy channels I subscribe to, but I really love your format here. You do a great job explaining things and showing off the figures through well lit shots full of great angles and closeups. Nicely done. I get bummed about this guy because he looks great but everything I've read on this guy has been overwhelmingly negative. Too expensive a figure to take the chance on buying.

By the way, the head sculpt to this Maul and the Crimson Dawn Maul are exactly the same. Hot Toys cheaped out there. But it's still a great head sculpt you can really see Ray Park in it.

This figure is FUCKING AWESOME!!!! I just don't understand why he didn't come with the Darksaber. He deserves it more then any other characters. I'm trying to score one on eBay bit pricy but Darth Maul is my favorite character in the entire Star Wars saga episodes 1-6, and The Clone Wars, so I can justify it. Lol I have my displayed without his tunic, what a pain in the ass it was to get all his plastic and padding off!!!! But to my surprise I actually like how he looks like this. Really makes me want a Clone Wars Maul with the mechanical Mother Talzin legs. I have 4 Maul's, the Sideshow Naboo Darth Maul from The Phantom Menace, Hot Toys The Phantom Menace Darth Maul, Crimson Dawn Maul, even though I don't like the movie or Star Wars Disney AT ALL, I justified getting him because he's George's character and Ray Park played him, with Sam's voice. And I have this one. My favorite is without a doubt is the Hot Toys The Phantom Menace Darth Maul with this one coming in at a close second.
