Hersha actually earned me as a subscriber to her channel for being such a great sport about Uncle Roger roasting her egg fried rice. There's a couple of videos now of the two of them collaborating. Where Roger keeps roasting her and from time to time her kinda just going; "What a weirdo". Its all in good fun. Jamie Oliver took some of the heat off her when Uncle Roger reacted to his egg fried rice.

This was fun to watch because we can relate to uncle roger's reaction, especially us asians who learned to cook rice at a very young age. Rice is the very first thing I learned to cook and now my 9 yr old niece is in charge of cooking rice.

Btw, Hersha Patel clarified that she was given that recipe from BBC. She actually has an old video in her KZfaq channel from 4 years ago where she cooks basmati rice, and it looks a lot better.

Rice is just a great common household in India and other Asian countries. We proud ourselves by calling ourselves as the masters of it since we master it by very early age as it's a staple food ...uncle Roger actually funnily incorporated true ways of making Asian Egg fried Rice .btw she was very good sport because she appreciated the roast . I bought a rice cooker when I lived in Japan 20 years ago. Thing lasted me 13 years, and I only replaced it because it was too small for our family. They are absolutely worth it if you make a lot of asian meals or prefer rice to other forms of grains. I also keep Ajinomoto (MSG) on hand when cooking meals. There's no better way to add umami flavor.

In my country the rice cookers comes with a little measuring cup and normal rice(CR rice) is 1=1.5 and this is for the texture liked in here

100% agree w/ mike about the best way to cook fried rice is to use day old cooked rice. In rare cases where you don't have day old rice just wash the rice more than usual to remove more starch...or so I've been taught by my grand parents.

4:48 but only for countries where the natural protective layer of the eggs is removed, because the customer wants to buy clean eggs. unwashed eggs therefore last much longer than your washed ones because of the intact protection.

Oh my i don’t want uncle roger to see how i cook a meal hahaha 😂😂😂, that would be so damaging on my part uncle roger, kidding aside there are meals that has a right way to prepare it but it is also the discretion of the one who prepared the meal, but with me it is very important to make sure that everything were done in a neat way because that also represents you when you prepared something for you and for those who wish to enjoy what u prepared, cooking is fun and it is one way to relieve stress mostly when the people who ate what you cooked were delighted on how the meal was done, so funny of uncle roger and so beautiful of nelly when she laughed so big, enjoy ur day and stay safe ❤️🌷

MSG is usually from seaweed extract. Natural and it gives the fifth taste - umami. Rice is not easy to cook in a pot. USE rice cooker.

1.) 1 part rice - 1 part water. Don't forget to wash you're rice for at least 2 times. 2.) If you're rice is too wet put 1 spoon of rock salt at the top of your Rice cooker and recook for 3-5 mins. 3.) If you're rice is dry apply #2. 4.) If you burned it, yo pak ap.

I read somewhere that in India (where I guess her roots are from) that's how they cook rice (for certain dishes or a certain type of rice). But well she was making an asian (oriental) influenced dish so she should've followed Asian style of cooking. She did say somewhere that she just followed a recipe with that type of instruction so I guess I won't trust BBC when it comes to Asian recipes. She and Uncle Roger are now friends so it has a good ending.

07:00 She wasn't rinsing the rice. She was trying to cool it down. Pro Chef usually do this when they make pasta. After the pasta are cooked, they would put it in a bowl of iced water so they don't get overly cooked, while preparing other ingredients.

In her defense, the way she cooks rice is how Indian people cook their Basmati rice. Basmati Rice is their preference and I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be prepared. I worked in a hotel kitchen and that was how my Indian colleagues do it except in big batches.

I saw in another video from a chef that for some rice (like Basmati), you want to wash first to get rid of starch. If it's other types of rice for like risotto, it makes sense to not wash it beforehand. But cooking like this is not technically correct

When they made a fuss about draining the rice, I almost felt insulted because this is actually how we cook rice in Iran! 😄 I mean literally, we do it every day. Although after draining the rice, we steam it until it is fully cooked. It won't even get smashed and lose its shape like the East Asian style.

@@roya94 in Southeast Asia, we rinse & drain the rice BEFORE cook. During cooking, we never disturb it until it finish. Except if we want to make another style of **tapioca rice, them we drain in the middle of cooking. Edit: it's **glutinous rice, i forgot the type

@@nooramirulikhwan6349 This is pretty interesting. I've never tried tapioca rice before. We eat Iranian rice which is basically like basmati. It can handle some disturb during the process of cooking if you be careful with it.

Were you cooking basmathi type of rice? No worries, asians actually knew different rice cooked differently. Like glutinuous rice, brown rice and basmathis. Just the rice aunt hersha's use is actually the ordinary rice which the way she cooked was totally wrong thats what irritate us the most. 😑

You should see the following videos after this one went viral. Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng, stand-up comedian) and Hersha actually have met up and collaborated in another hilarious video. Then they were both interviewed by BBC where they both shared their side of the story. And then they went on to collaborate on more KZfaq videos presenting contrasting cultures between Chinese British and Indian British. In the interview, Nigel said that he was trying to keep the criticism to the cooking but ended up criticizing the cook herself and admitted that he did thought it was rather mean. But Hersha Patel was such a good sport and turned this rather negative vibe into something positive. You've started it, so, as others have also pointed out...now you have to react to his reaction to Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay! Oh, to a certain extent, I agree with what Nelly said for Hersha's sake. That said...we also have to consider the fact that the video was NOT posted as a personal video where she shares her attempt to learn to make egg fried rice. The video was a BBC food channel, therefore she was on it, sharing a recipe as a professional cook/chef. As such, she holds accountability for what she teaches. Ideally, of course, it would've been better for her to have been given feedback privately. But, in any case...it's all water under the bridge and they're friends who poke "fun" at each other on their videos now.

Garlic and ginger should be added before anything else to give favor to the oil which will infuse into the rice and other ingredients, not in the middle of the cooking.
