On February 23, 2022, the National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Behavioral Health (the NNED) National Facilitation Center and SAMHSA's Office of Behavioral Health Equity hosted this virtual roundtable, in partnership with SAMHSA's Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network Coordinating Office.
This NNED Virtual Roundtable focused on the unique experience of refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers with a focus on the layers of trauma throughout and beyond the migration process, as well as on healing and resilience. Panelists discussed how to respond to behavioral health needs in these migrant communities in culturally responsive, trauma-informed ways.
A special thank you to the panelists Cecily Peeples Rodriguez, Dr. Hyojin Im, and Kathi Anderson for sharing their experiences during the virtual roundtable and for the important work they're doing to support these communities and their behavioral health. Thank you as well to Dr. Mary Roary for welcoming all in to this space, Dr. Nima Sheth for setting the stage for the discussion, and Annie Guo VanDan for her facilitation. Thank you to all of the participants who also shared their strategies and resources and helped to contribute to the rich dialogue!
