One of the best videos I have seen on explaining how real military tactics have been transferred to a rule set - and exactly how it works on the table. Makes me want to pull my O Group book and counters out again. Btw, happy to report my own channel on classic Brit movies (which you kindly supported some time ago) is now within about 40 of the coveted 1,000 subscriber mark.

Alex - this video takes some of the most crucial aspects of the game (and, the ones that set OG apart from any other ruleset on the market), and gives an amazing, well explained, nuts-and-bolts review. Well done indeed!! I only have one criticism - the star of the show, Tiny, never made an appearance!!😺😺. What happened - you not paying him enough? I’m guessing he’s on strike until you re-negotiate his contract!!😂😂 Seriously though - you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Great stuff. This really gives some good insight into the game and possible tactics. More of this, please. Please!!! Started basing in FoW style for O Group. Your basing is much better, but I have to be compatible to classic FoW. (sigh) I'm really looking forward to trying out the game.

Great introduction to the rules. How many orders can one expect to have to use on a given turn?
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
Cheers Pat. An average, at strength battalion rolls nine orders dice, 6s count as HQ dice (which can be spent) 2 - 5s count as company orders, which must be spent in the turn, and 1s count as no orders or a hesitant company if you roll three. I've found on average you'll have about seven co. Orders, but up to 6 banked as HQ orders. So quite a lot, but they soon get used up as you try to rally shock and suppression.

This was a confusing part of the rules for me. But can you tell me where in the rules you are allowed to deploy your reserves when your opponent has the offensive combat phase? I only read that the non offensive player can react to either fire or movement of your forces only. And when you bring in a reserve company does it then have a company sector that is the same as the company it is reinforcing? So in effect you can have 2 companies attacking? Sorry, not complaining about the vid just trying to clarify. For me at least the rules arent overly clear in how exactly you do this. Thanks for the vid I hope you do more, it helps the learning
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
The turn is broken into two phases, page 23. Offensive combat phase, then the defensive combat phase. What I meant was that the opponent will take their turn in the offensive combat phase, during which time you may react, then you will take your turn in the defensive combat phase, during which you can issue orders and deploy the reserves, page 24. It's a separate company, so really should have a separate company areas assigned to it.

@@StormofSteelWargaming Ok I watched that point in the video again, now it makes sense. I suffer from PTSD so sometimes the little things get missed as I focus on the larger point. I missed the HOPEFULLY take the initiative. I am just starting putting units on the table and learning the rules. I assumed that when a reserve battalion comes on you would need to readjust the widths of the front. so that now there are 3 sectors. I must admit I do like what you did in the video where the coy that attacked goes into on table reserve and focuses on taking off shock. Then if the new attack goes bad it can take the lead. Would something like that be allowed in the rules? Or will the new company need to move into its new sector? Sorry for the dumb question.
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
@@tracer0017 no worries buddy, things can be missed easily. The sectors part are really only there to guide in an attack, it is not too important if you don't assign companies to an area. The third companies area could be the one beyond the phase line, if you want it to be really. Yeah, you can continue using all of your companies, as long as you have the orders to get them to do something in your turn.
