I can’t believe how good you are at explaining dynamic movement of the foot. I’ve had years of problems with the great toe and you are the first person to explain the anatomy, full range of motion both static and dynamic and how to identify limitation/ problems. I’ve no medical training but I understand exactly what you are talking about. Clarity at last. Thankyou. I haven’t found any other KZfaq channel that does what you do as well as you do it. Simply the best.👍🏽

Great great video! Perfect explanation for exactly what I’ve been dealing with and struggling to find a answers and a path to solutions. Hadn’t heard of glute amnesia but Feels like my big toe “forgot” how to move- feels like a mini paralysis as I can’t control the great toe or make it fire.

Dr. Splichal, could you please offer your thoughts, or maybe even a video, on the efficacy, or lack thereof, of using cortisone shots for functional Hallux Limitus? Are there dangers to the limited use of cortisone injections in regard to degradation of the joint? Thank you so much for your wisdom and expertise.

Is it good despite having hallux limitus, go on with training barefooted? Like karate (1,5 hour a week on a hard surface) while for the rest of the weak keep on your ''normal'' shoes with stiffsoles and do some jogging? Many thanks ou have a incredible amount of knowledge.

This is great. I recently was diagnosed with a small bone spur and my doctor has so far not given me time to ask questions, so I'm here. I'm 40, flat footed, been a runner for 20 years and last year, after a basketball injury (my foot was stepped on while running so probably a bad sprain) I started noticing severe pain in my 1st mtp. I have a small bone spur now and I'm really trying to figure out I'm here now because of my running or this injury I got. my range of motion is very good still, I can wear regular shoes although my doc said I need orthotics. Will doing these exercises for functional HL help someone with actual hallux limitus reduce the progress of the disease? Or once the spur exists, is that jamming inevitable? (I don't feel pain with normal gait even when I run but swelling happens later. )

I’m a few years older, but have had the same experience. Podiatrist says I was their 72nd or 73rd patient that day. Told me what I had and completely ignored my attempts to explain what originally happened and my questions. I left with a cortisone shot and a prescription for Medrol that he never called in. Oh, and was told that I’d need a better cushioned shoe.

The top joint of my right great toe is immobile. It has been broken twice. Is this the same thing? The first mpj is ok. No pain.

Thank you for your video!! There seem to be so few specialists who actually understand this condition. What exercises do you recommend for stabilizing the medial column and subtalar joint? I'm a rock climber and my FnHL started after I really amped up my climbing, so I'm hoping I can correct it with exercises. Please help!

My great right toe was removed, amputated. I’m not diabetic and I’m 40. I had an injury to my toe. My bone was C exposed from it and my tendon was severely severed and a large portion was gone. My toe needed to be amputated. My foot f doc/surgeon said id be fine. Well I’m not great. I lose my balance. But he said i wouldn’t. I’m still in a lot of pain which he also said i bc wouldn’t be. But I’m not diabetic and i have to keep reminding him that i can feel everything! But I’m so off balance that I’m afraid.

I just had a CAT scan of my feet, and nothing looks wrong - but my right great toe still won't bend more than about 60 degrees before it starts to hurt on the top of its joint. It's driving me insane. I can't lunge or do push-ups correctly because of this. I lean to the side to compensate. I want to fix this NOW but nobody is taking this problem seriously :(( I can't stretch it because it hurts long before I feel a stretch. I've tried mobilizing and the joint moves as it should as far as I can tell unless I want it to extend past 60. I'm out of ideas...

Dear dr. Splichal. I follow all your videos because I have so much pain in my right forefood and big toe. I have to say that even though I have studied a lot of foot anatomy and functionality I don't understand much of what you are talking about because you don't show some practical examples of what you are explaining. I am Danish and therefore it's not easy to catch all the terminology in English whithout having practical showings. I cannot find anybody I my country that knows so much about feet that you do and therefore I have to be my own doctor to find out and now I have spent 2 years doing that and consulting a lot of different professionals if they could help me, but no. Please talk a little bit slower in your next video and also show with real feet what you are talking about. Thank you so much for you great work. HELLE

Your a very well educated women no doubt about it, But I am not a knuckled dragger app person lady, Leave evolution to the grade level schools, lets use our minds and be adults. There is no scientific evidence to support your evolution theory. Try reading a book called I Don't have enough faith to be a etheist, by Frank Turek.
Are you doing short foot correctly? with Dr Emily Splichal
