This was my first exposure to Michael Sheen (Lucian, the leader of the werewolves), and I will *actively* seek out anything he's in. Because he can turn out Oscar-level performances *AND* camp it up like a beast. Sometimes in the same movie.

I still want to know who wrangled Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen into Underworld 😅 They are by far the best actors in the movie and even return for the prequel (which you should also watch). I remember 2 and maybe 3 being good too, so keep going with the series.

Nighy in particular is a working actor. He plies his trade and earns his money. Not like a lot of the more pretentious folk. There's a lot of older British stage actors like that. Derek Jacobi, Ian McKellen. I respect the hell out of it. ♥

Great reaction. Not many realize that Marcus became a Hybrid with the Doctors blood seeping into his crypt. I definitely didn't realize it the first few times.

He’s not a hybrid. Sunlight hurts him. He’s just the start and so different than the ones he made. First Vamp and first Wolf are of the Corvienus line.

Marcus isn't a hybrid, sunlight still hurts him and he's the 1st of the vampire's so he will be different than the rest. The only thing the doctors blood did was show Marcus images threw his eyes just like Selene did with Viktor, the past and present.

@@RedTail94 no he is a hybrid it’s why he was able to change and shift from form to form however because he was a vampire first sunlight was still harmful to him unlike micheal who was lycan first then vampire he would only become immune to sunlight if he drank his fathers blood however that thought never occurred to him he just wanted his father dead. Eve micheal’s daughter is the perfect blend of both species well technically 3 if you include her immortal gene she inherited from her mother that was passed to Selene via Alexander. Marcus was a vampire dominant hybrid first because he was vamp first, micheal is a lycan dominant because he was lycan first and eve is the first perfect blend of all 3 and Selene is the first immortal/vamp hybrid.

His natural speaking voice really is that deep. Gun Enthusiast Fact: Although many weapons are used in this movie, the iconic handguns in the subway scene are Beretta 92Fs, also called Beretta 93Rs. They are full auto and have 25 to 30 rounds each. The Berettas have been modified to fire full-auto, and contain barrel weights. Dog Wangler Fact: The 'attack dogs' outside of the vampire mansion were actually very docile and playful canines, which were the only dogs available at the time. For the scene where they chase Scott Speedman, director Len Wiseman had to film short clips of the dogs running and later put in sounds of vicious barking. If you look closely though you can see their tails happily wagging back and forth. No Hard Feelings Fact: Not only in this movie did Kate Beckinsale meet her future husband, director Len Wiseman, but at the time she was in a long term relationship with actor Michael Sheen, who played Lucian. Michael and Kate share a daughter together who appears in the film during a flashback of when Selene was younger. Michael and Len have since become very close friends and have collaborated with each other on Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (2009). Michael and Kate still remain very close and both are raising their daughter equally. Kate has stated that Michael is her best friend and that they still remain very close.

The third movie they made was Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. It is a prequel that shows how the war started with Victor and Lucian, if you want them back. You can watch that at anytime once you’ve seen this original.

The big black dude with the miles-deep voice, two things to know: 1) That’s really how his voice sounds. Dude got more testosterone going to his vocal cords when he hit puberty than a hippo. 2) He’s one of the main writers for this series. Half of this first movie alone came from him.

Did anyone mention the whole scandal about this story. White Wolf and the pu lishers had released a story in their tabletop roleplaying game that was like 75% similar to the story concept. I don't recall what the outcome was, but I remember reading the story in high school, mid 90s, and when the film came out, I was so psyched to see it. But, I believe there were some delays related to the whole copyright case. I don't recall if it was theater or home video delays. It's been too long.

16:23 This movie came out after the Matrix hence its fashion sense. However, the director Len Wiseman said he intentionally avoided having any of the actors wear sunglasses like the characters in Matrix. He said that the Warshawski siblings used the sunglasses to make everyone look cool but also to hide the fact that the actors were flinching while firing their weapons. If you look closely whenever these actors shoot they stare wide eyed as heck.
