I've written quite a few songs that I'm happy to show off, but that doesn't mean I'm all that eager to share the sometimes tough journey it took to get there. Follow along as I share an unfiltered glimpse into my process of getting a track from nothing to something.

Very relatable how critical we can be of ourselves. I think what you do for a living is very cool, Jon, and I hope you feel cool sometimes! What an amazing thing to whip up full arrangements on the fly and create soulful recordings! Not to mention all the video work.

I really appreciate you showing that it's a non-linear process, and that not everything you try is going to work.

It takes a lot of courage to expose your process, warts and all. Thanks for being so vulnerable. The track sounds great, btw!

This video reminded me of a particular email I got while on vacation this past week. I AM PICKING UP WHAT YOU'RE LAYING DOWN, my friend.

Great to see your process! Thanks for sharing. I've struggled with click bleed myself in the past too, my solution is using earbuds as the monitoring headphones WITH a pair of unconnected DT100s (closed back) over the top. This completely isolates the headphone mix from the mic, especially when using a condenser. It also means you can have the headphone mix a little quieter while recording too. Also, man, you are WAY too hard on yourself, Jon... :)

Getting a shoutout from Jon Meyer! Joy! Fun video. I still hear the click. Haha.

Hi!!!! I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for not editing out sections where things don't initially sound that great. As you play you discover and see what works. This shows the initial struggle until something great comes out of it all. Most videos don't show this. Thanks for sharing.

Facinated to see you are using the Gretsch Sundown Serenade! I have one as well, which was a bit sketchy until I put a Nashville tuning string set on it - mine's perfect for that, but yours sounds good in that tuning 👍🏼

I feel your pain with no chart, whenever I write something in open tuning it takes an age to work out what I've actually done

Nice tune Jon and so comforting to hear the raw sounds gradually blend into something warm and professional. An odd request, but I love your vids, they are good for my tired soul, but the algorithm seems to fill my feed with really depressing politics. I assume there are a bunch of channels that your subscribers also generally like, just wondering if there is an ‘if you love Jon Meyer, you’ll like these’ type list. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Likeable creatives. Just a thought. Thanks for the mellow vibes as always. 🙏❤️😎

I love the music creation videos. I know they're not always the easiest to make, but they inspire confidence. Maybe you'll do them on the regular? Thanks for sharing.

Sonically, you really captured the zeitgeist of contemporary indie folk pop-rock. Half-time, '70s dry drums, felt pianos, nylon sounding acoustics. Reminds me of 'Part of the band', 'All I Need to hear' & 'When We Are Together' by The 1975. On another note, in my opinion, I think the IV - I - V chord progression would have sounded a lot sweeter :)

It often seems obvious what to play while you’re tracking a scratch or guide pass, but that disappears as quick as it shows up and it’s time to double or add a bass part. Nice to know I’m not so far off in my meager attempts.
