Unforgiven: The Boys Who Killed A Child (Jamie Bulger Documentary) | Real Stories
This powerful and disturbing documentary covers the outcry approaching the release of Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, the two 10 year old boys who killed 2 year-old James Bulger in 1993. Re-telling the tragedy, the film presents the protests against their release from an institution, delves into the backgrounds of the killers, their terrible violent act and the impact it caused in UK. It also explores claims that their punishment has been a sham, as reporter Deborah Davies investigates how inmates at secure units are treated and interviews experts to learn whether eight years has been sufficient time to successfully rehabilitate the pair.

If I saw it, I would've thought the child fell over and the boys were rushing him home to his mother or something. You'd feel prtty guity. Still, does not one of the thirty adults who sighted them have any sense of responsibility?

You shouldn't blame the witnesses. Even Ralph Bulger in his book states that they probably hold a huge amount of guilt for not interfering but they shouldn't at all. There could be a million reasons why the child was bloody and walking with two older boys. Not everybody would assume they were about to murder him or he was in any danger being with them.

@Chance Chanel Exactly. "Social services" is an advanced society's "CYA" (Cover Your A$$) department. Its to make a nation look like they care about the most vulnerable in their society so everyone can ignore what's going on in their own neighborhood. Then everyone gets to avoid accountability. I know-I've worked with agencies like that. Where were all those indignant adults screaming for blood when those two boys were walking on a public street with a bleeding 2 year old? Oh, "none of my business" is where they were. The hypocrisy just flattens you. Does that mean other people can go around killing previously convicted people? Will all of them be pardoned for being a good part of society? Would that make people prone to being accused, falsely convicted and getting killed? Total anarchy ensues. Someone kills their neighbour because they wanted to but at court they'll claim "No, Sir. There was a similar case happened in Norway, and the victim 5-year-old Silje Redergard, was killed by two 6-year-old boys. They went back to school and continued to lead normal lives, and were never named in the press. Obviously there are differences between James Bugler’s case and the one in Norway, with there being 4 year age gaps between the killers, and that the ones in Norway already knew their victim. Thankfully, these cases are incredibly rare, and when they happen, they can be completely shocking and remembered for decades. I’m pretty sure even in 200 years time, people will still be talking about the James Bulger case due to the shocking nature of it.

I learned about this story today on the news because of the 30th anniversary. I read many terrible stories of many monsters (psychopaths in general: pedos, serial killers, etc.) but this story really hit me, to the point that I started crying and I couldn't stop. The last time I cried was when my grandmother died years ago. Never happened this to me before. Incredibly sad, heartbreaking. Difficult to express.

Yes, because the law in many cases protects children. I imagine if these two 10 year olds were selling weed they'd get no jail time at all. But it's possible that an adult may get a more severe punishment for selling weed, than a kid gets for murder, it depends on many factors such as: kid's age, method of murder and also whether you're selling 5 grams or 5 tonnes of weed.

I wouldn't explicitly blame the murder on the parents. Some people are simply screwed in the head regardless of their upbringing. There are hundreds if not thousands of juvenile delinquents and they don't go around killing toddlers - at least this is the first (and I sincerely hope the only) case I heard of. While they have been neglected this is not a "normal" or typical criminal behaviour, n'or does it have anything to do with gang violence. I would think that even if they never skipped a school day they'd still would have hurt someone. It's the nature of the beast, as they say.

Venables and Thompson had brought blue paint stolen from the shopping mall and splashed it in Bulger’s left eye. They then kicked him, pummelled him with bricks and stones, and stuffed batteries into his mouth. Finally, the boys hit Bulger over the head with a 22-pound iron bar, which resulted in 10 skull fractures. All in all, Bulger sustained 42 injuries to his face, head, and body. He was so badly battered, authorities later concluded, that there was no way to tell which injury represented the fatal blow. Eventually, Venables and Thompson placed Bulger’s dead body (a forensic pathologist later concluded that he was dead at this point) across the train tracks, in hopes of making the whole thing look like an accident, and abandoned the scene before a train came along and severed the toddler in two. How is this justice ?
@ChadeGB
@ChadeGB 8 ай бұрын
Venables has re-offended four times since release and been jailed twice for possessing child p**n images, so the rehabilitation obviously didn't work for him. Thompson on the other hand has not re-offended and has apparently now settled into a relatively normal life. It's such a difficult situation, they were only kids themselves at 10yrs old, so trying to rehabilitate them is understandable, but it certainly doesn't feel like justice for poor James and his parents. Being put into care for 8yrs and them having all the attention and care they didn't get at home wasn't a punishment, it was better than the life they were living before. They should have gone through rehabilitation as children and then been imprisoned for the rest of their lives as adults.

@@kyaos_Meteor because for one thing, privacy is an extremely important human survival tool - a defence mechanism against harm and cumulative stress caused by "exposure" (which is consistently touted as a "good" thing, in spite of the undeniable, and pure negativity it brings with it). Civilization fought for centuries for the right to have its privacy - it wasn't striven for by accident, it was done to protect people from unfair preconceptions (and therefore unexpected harmful consequences), from others. Nobody ever *needs* to reveal anything about their lives to anyone else - under any circumstances. The responsibility for potential spouses etc. to ensure their own wellbeing, is their own, their family's, the community's, the nation's, the world's - GOD's. Society used to be able to manage that in a more tangible - and VASTLY less offensive fashion - than it does today. It was more passively incorporated into the fabric of society, rather than targeted [AT] a specific individual, so that everyone was able to positively benefit. Ironically, it's possible that James Bulger might actually have been spared, had mechanisms that _used_ to be at work within society's comprehensively protective ethos, actually continued to maintain its status quo. This whole thing might never have ever happened.

@@amywonderland9297 ok but they're 10. So you're saying they should be locked up forever? Everyone deserves a second chance. Especially at that age. You cant just give up on them. Being trapped in that environment forever, you think that will help them?

Pure evil. I remember this story breaking like it was yesterday. Still brings a lump to my throat. Unbelievable, how it's brought into situations like these "they didn't have the best of upbringing" In all honesty, WHO DID, we didn't all end up killers

It's ridiculous those 2 scum bags took Jamie's life and now their both out of prison. Poor Jamie will never come home my heart goes out to his parents losing a son like they lost Jamie is a wound that can never be healed
