Sharon Redd was an American disco singer from New York. She is synonymous with Prelude Records, the New York label that released some of the most thrilling dance music of the late '70s and early '80s. Redd released three albums on the label and racked up a number of club hits that have long since become classics with disco and house DJs who continue to rightly view the era with great reverence.

My mother RIP was Sharon redds great friend in the industry back in the seventies . My mother and Sharon redd who both worked in Australia . I’ve been to Sharon redds high rise apartment back in the seventies in New York City , Manhattan . Those were some great memories we ate cheeseburgers . Rest In Peace to my dear mother Bernice and to Sharon redd.

Saw her live performance at Bond International in NYC in 1980. I was so close to to where she was on stage and so happy to see her do her thing. She knew it and kept pointing at me, while both of us dancing, as she was singing this song. It was just one of those unforgettable nights!

I first met Sharon when she was with Bette Midler in Cleveland Ohio. Then I met her again in New York City it was so sad to hear about how her life ended. Rock in peace.💖

Just discovered Sharon Redd in the last couple of years, from a soul radio station - two great tracks of hers are this one and "Never Give You Up". Great music - high energy, catchy, positive, so danceable. Sad to hear she passed of AIDS, far too soon.

Reading Jenifer Lewis' memoir and she mentioned losing so many of her friends during the AIDS crisis including Sharon who she mentioned was a Harlette for Bette Midler in the 70s.

@@shorttrini2002 Yes, they have the same Dad. Sharon is almost 19 years older than Penny. Penny had her own success with two albums and with the Dance Duo SNAP! "The Power" was a huge hit! She still performs with SNAP! =)

Sharon's star was so bright and then Aids took her out very quickly. I was totally caught off guard and very sad. To this day it still hurts. Rip Miss Redd. The devil may have cut your life short but God got you now❤

That concert was in 1984 . I was 19 and just started to discover the nightlife . The C5 parties were legendary - beautyful people , phantastic costumes , great decorations , and entertainers like Sharon Redd , Gloria Gaynor or Divine - those are precious memories to me .

I spoke with Sharon before her death. Sharon was not a drug user!! She contracted AIDS from a Bi-sexual man she was having sexual relations with. He did not reveal his status too her. Truly a tragic story.

March 19th,1981, London. Because of Musicians Union rules she didn't lip-synch to the original backing. Instead they used a version by the 'Top of the Pops Orchestra, cond. Johnny Pearson, & the Maggie Stredder Singers. The video you see here has been overdubbed.
