Q3: what technique can be used to handle situation of conflicts in team coaching ? Managing surprising effects of unexpected too emotional ?
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai Ай бұрын
I think it's important to understand what the role of conflict is in your team. As a systems coach, I like to think of conflict as an ally - it is telling us that something is trying to change, trying to emerge. If we can harness that need for the system to evolve in a productive way then we can use the power of conflict to more forward. you might also look at the ORSC concept of "Team Toxins" as this is about how people react unskillfully in conflict. As to your second question, it's funny how strongly I feel about the concept of "Too emotional" - the emotion isn't good or bad, people might express it in a way that is not helpful but I always try to bring curiosity and compassion. What is going on that led to this expression? What am I not seeing? That is not to say we can accept inappropriate behaviour in the office but also to realise if someone is what you thik is "too emotional" there is an underlying trigger that may be able to support growth in the team... but first we might need to take the heat out!

Q2: what capacity is needed to be more aware of the bias ? what kind of little practice can be used every day to be more unconscious in our decision/ working ?
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai Ай бұрын
Great question! On a theoretical level, I recommend taking the Harvard implicit bias test available online and in many languages and for many types of bias. You might be surprised about what types of bias you have - so the first step is awareness. Then finding more evidence and experiencing other ways of life that challenge your bias or belief - realising that there are many ways to experience life and that your way is not the only way or the "common sense way" can also open up your mind. I also love the simple idea or #flipittotestit - you can find the ted talk about the topic - the focus is gender bias but it is a good way to check in with yourself and see if you might be coming from a place of bias - eg would I have said or done this in the same way if the other person was (a different identity). And just be kind to yourself - there are over 180 known cognitive biases and bias and Systems 1 thinking does help us in many ways to make it through the day!

What is the underlying ideas adopted IKIGAI into coaching ? What specific impact from IKIGAI used ? How to equip IKIGAI in the coaching process ?

This could be a whole separate webinar and I suggest you take a look at my KZfaq channel interviews to hear over 50 people's interpretation of Ikigai. The well known 4 part venn diagram (What do you love? good at? can be paid for? world need?) is a super career coaching tool but it is not what most Japanese people think of as 生きがい ーthis is something more personal and about a feeling in the moment or an outlook on life. So a lot of my work is to help people find more moments where they feel ikigai, to have more hope for the future, and a feeling of mattering to someone or something. Check out the Ikigai-9 assessment for another way to consider ikigai if you would like a measurement.

Q4: what other ways to process emotion ?
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai Ай бұрын
Mindfulness can really help - developing the awareness between the trigger and the response rather than the reaction. Allowing the time to choose. Also curiosity - what is happening in my body now? What am I making this mean? What else is it telling me? Try not to judge the emotion - it's just information - not good or bad but data.

Questions 1 : How can Coaches help employee with mental health issues to be more better in their mental and productivity ?
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai Ай бұрын
Whilst coaching can support mental wellbeing in terms of gaining new perspectives and understanding what your personal values and goals are or what beliefs might be limiting you at this time, it is not a replacement for therapy, counselling or medication which may be required for a mental health situation. I think it is important to know that coaching is one option but not the only one and not always the right one.

How to guide the team to set a goal while coaching the executives? What are the tools can be besides IKIGAI? its, Fattah Asif from Dhaka, Bangladesh
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai
@IkigaiwithJenniferShinkai Ай бұрын
Ikigai is well known as a framework for career coaching due to a Western interpretation putting the word "ikigai" on a purpose Venn Diagram. However, Japanese researcher show that it is something closer to a lived experience with feelings and sources of Ikigai. To your question about guiding the team to set a goal, I have a lot of follow up questions! Is the goal setting about a collective goal or individual goals? How has the team set and achieved goals in the past? What is working? What is not? What is the culture of the team when it comes to goal setting - are they looking for direction from the top or a collaborative grass roots process? As the leader understanding the motivations and beliefs of yourself and your team when it comes to goals, is the first step.
