We got a lot of rain yesterday (southwestern Ontario, near windsor), and i was so nervous for my new hydrangea tree. We got some hail too, but its all good, no damage. Your garden is beautiful! Love all your roses.

Thank you Nikki! 💚 Roses are my fav plants after hydrangeas and clematis! It’s too bad they are harder to keep because of our cold 🥶 winters. Enjoy the hydrangeas! 💚

Your garden is a labor of love !!! Joe do you handle the winter in your time zone??? Especially your planter boxes.

Thank you Rita! 💚 I planters are double walled and also large and so they can hold a large reservoir of soil…and this help to protect the plants from the cycle of freeze and thaw in our cold garden zone. Also I try to pick plants that are 2+ zones below our garden zone which will help give us most success. Happy gardening!

Hi 👋 I went to look for Puffer Fish and Tiny Quick Fire and did not see them at the largest Garden Nursery near me yet. I hope to get one of each to test them out. Hopefully 🙏 we will get them soon!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. The Sonic Bloom Pearl Weigela is supposed to be a good rebloomer, has that been your experience?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
It does rebloom later on in the season but it usually is not as prolific. I usually prune to shape it and let the plant put on new growth and rebloom.

I have a gardening tent that I put over my blooms when we have heavy rain. Too beautiful to lose.

That’s a great idea! The heavy rain we had the other day damaged many of my Lichfield Angel blooms. It’s quite sad they happen to bloom during our heavy early summer rain.

It’s the fertilizer 😁. I fed it with a little slow release earlier in the season and gave it water soluble fertilizer every 10-12 days. 😁💚🙏

So beautiful!!! How long did it take for your Lichfield angel roses to look like this? I have had mine for two years now and they don't look that good... Have you done anything special to them besides fertilizing them?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
I just fertilize them and that’s it. It does take them 2 years or so to get established. Unfortunately for us, roses have to restart every spring due to a lot of dieback we get every winter. Be patient and you’ll be rewarded soon. 💚💚

Those roses are stunning! They are out of stock on the DA site but I may get them for next season. I know a couple of years ago you did a garden tour of your friend's garden. She had a stunning limelight hydrangea tree standard. I already have the limelight shrub but thinking about getting a tree standard. Do you think it's worth it considering the upkeep needed to maintain the tree form? Also how would you compare the limelight standard to a quickfire standard? Both look beautiful!
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
QF is most definitely easier to maintain than LL standard. I find that you don’t have to worry too much about pruning QF tree as the blooms are light and don’t flop (regardless of Webster you prune them right or not). LL on the other hand - you have to do it right or else they don’t look as nice. LL white panicles are stunning in mid-summer…and they get floppy under our heavy summer rain. By late summer and into fall - my LL look like they need a trim or two (very floppy). I think if you have a very large space, a floppy LL tree will look pretty…but my garden is so small that the sight of floppy LL tree panicles look sort of “off”. You can also get a Pinky Winky or Phantom trees as well. The Pinky Winky and Phantom blooms are light than those of LL and won’t be floppy.

@@TracysHomeGarden thanks so much as always. This is really helpful and saved us a lot of time. We decided to go with Pinky Winky in the front lawn. The quick fire tree form is not available in my local garden center but look forward to adding it near the front porch. Yours is beautiful and I like the fact that it blooms early. Thanks again for all the inspiration.

Tracey, are your rose varieties more sturdy? My David Austin’s, like Evelyn, Abraham Darby just splay open and have roses at the long canes. I wonder if you had a similar experience with Evelyn.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
I think the Lichfield Angels have sturdy stems. We had heavy rain the other day and they were still upright. The Marie-Rose stems are floppy so I don’t recommend that one.

How did you protect your DA in winter ? I’m also in Toronto
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
I actually did not protect the DA roses for the last two winters. Last year, they died back and came all back from the ground. This year, they also died almost all the way back but two didn’t survive. Sadly, I lost 1 Lichfield Angel and 1 Evelyn. Previously I used a large pot and cut like a collar. I placed the collar around the base of each rose and stuffed the collar with 6-12” of compost inside. The collar and compost were remove around mid May.

Beautiful David Austin roses (so elegant looking) and clematis! I also love the color of the Lobelia flowers and enjoy your garden videos very much, you have a great color palette. Would also like to know what products you use to keep your plants healthy and bug free. My roses always struggle with aphids, black spot, beetles etc. which is very discouraging. 🪴💚

Let me share a homemade product I use on my roses soon. I too have caterpillars feeding on my rose buds but not as many aphids and all this year possibly due to our dryer spring? Thank you 🙏
