The Living Legend Returns To Laramie after a long absence (Fall of 2013?) Westbound for the Boise Turn Special she is just 2 hours out of Cheyenne and needs a quick service. After a quick look of the action from the nice pedestrian viaduct & birds eye view of Laramie. We catch 844 as she charges out of Laramie north across the Laramie River headed to the Ghost Town of Bosler, WY.

this is the great part of modern technology. if our schedules don't always allow to be near these great American iron, you can still enjoy seeing it. the sounds the video is top notch. love that whistle.

How beautiful is this? Artwork in motion! If this is any prelude to the return of UP 4014 to the mainline, I CAN NOT WAIT!! This UP 844 really runs perfectly AND efficiently!! She REALLY is a well oiled machine!

Got to see her today at the Boise Train Depot. What a sight to see. Just awesome. That whistle is deafening when standing just feet away. Many little ones with sour faces and wailing after a short tooot! tooot!

Beautiful...hopefully one day I'll have the honor of watching 844 in live action and not through a screen. Can't wait for the return of both the 4014 and the 3985.

My dream train is the 4014 in the lead, loaded coal hoppers, 3985 cut in 2/3's the way back, more coal hoppers, and 844 shoving on the rear.

Nate Jenkins it's quite amazing of the engineering just to build a a steam locomotive.. but to be the Engineer Operating a Steam Locomotive or any other for that matter.. My Late Brother In Law ..William "Bill" Riley operated this locomotive 8444.. which latter became 844

Paul Ayers A true masterpiece indeed. Your brother-in-law was a lucky man to sit at 844's throttle. Just imagine running a 800 during the steam days when they were allowed to run over 100 mph.

the person they have as the fireman on the 844 really knows his stuff. the stack not showing much/if any grey or black smoke. he/she is running it top noch perfectly. nice to see 844 all by her self.

I saw that too. It's a light train. I would love to see her working like she was designed to work. I'll bet that her stack is cleaner than it was in 2013 or earlier.

Actually, the engine's oil fired. There's no black smoke, because the flame's kept ballanced

Actually, Goat, she is still until steam power. Otherwise, UP wouldn't have bothered with her boiler inspection and re-certifying her boiler certificate. Plus, you can see the fire inside the firebox if you look closely.
