September of this year would have made 10 years with GF. We have been together since college. We are the only people we have each been with for more than a few months. The only people we had each slept with. We have grown into adults together. Experienced all life has to offer both good and bad.
Last March right before corona hit we sold our house and moved from a small town in a rural state to the suburbs of a much more populated state outside a major city for a promotion I got. She was hesitant to go but we wanted to have new life experiences and see what living in a more populated area had to offer so we went for it.
Story 1:
My (30M) GF (28F) of almost 10 years has been cheating with a (50M) former coworker for months
Story 2:
My (21M) girlfriend (20F) just asked to have an open relationship. When I told her I wasn’t comfortable, she said she said she’d stop seeing other people.
Story 3:
Wife cheated, blamed me for digging, wants to stay together.
Story 4:
Girlfriend (29F) asks for a pause in our (29M) relationships because she never dated anyone but me, she feels like she is missing out and asks for permission to date her co-worker while we are on a pause

I was once asked for an open relationship after 1.5 years so I said go ahead, have your open relationship, our lease was up the previous month, and we were month to month so when she went out that friday night I moved out removed myself from the lease and disappeared, she didnt realise we broke up, tried to get back with me for months promising me she didnt go thru with it, I told her you clearly wasnt happy with me or this wouldnt have come up, she even had her friends messaging me telling me I should have communicated better, I just blocked the whole lot of them after telling them she wanted an open relationship shes free to do so just I wont be apart of it...

if i've learned anything from these askreddits it's that if someone you're dating suddenly asks for an open relationship, there's a 99% chance that they want to use it as an excuse to cheat or are already cheating on you. then they get mad when they find out you're sleeping with other people too lol. i'm sure there are exceptions of course, but most of them seem to end like this.

What is this BS every f*ing time? The woman asks for an open relationship and the guy's response is "I am not comfortable with that." WTF?! The right response is "Hell no!" Not being comfortable with it means "I kinda wanna say "No." but it's open to debate and maybe you can convince me into it." She assumed they have an open relationship, but then she "asks him that they have an open relationship" and he goes "Should I fight for our relationship?" Her default settings are on "$1uт".

The guy says that he has a really good relationships with his gf now. This is after she admits to hooking up with other people. It was a clear admission of physical cheating. And then she's going to say that she always thought they were in an open relationship, but 10 months in, asks permission for an open relationship? Yeah, that make sense. And BF is totally awesome with it. What a champ. I'm sure he will become a magnificent father of someone else's children.

Respond with anyone of those answers: 1. I do not date/commit to women who find that 100% of me is not enough to satisfy her. 2. "The diabolical/devilish approach" (You react with enthusiasm) - Omg babe i am so glad you made this proposition/suggestion, you know your friend (insert name) i find her very attractive, i might have an opening with her, you don't mind that i sleep with her right. She won't have time to consider monkey branching if her safe option/backup plan is not completely under her lust. It's similiar to your GF telling you that she is pregnant (not true) when you try to break up with her. Omg i am so excited to become a father, bla bla bla. She will be pissed and will tell you the truth to get back at you. 3. Once we take that road there is no going back to being monogamous. 4. Although option 2 is quite appealing, you break up with her and move on. You can relegate her to a fwb or booty call position because that what she want to be anyway.

I've honestly seen much worse stories of men of reddit simping. IIRC there was a story of a married couple for some 20+ years, she was cheating on him before they even got married and he was defending HER saying he can't throw 20 years of marriage away just like that. Even after finding out she was cheating the entire time and their marriage was a sham, Captain Simp still tried getting her into marriage counselling when it was clear she never loved him in the first place.

I mean, if you click on videos that are about people cheating, you’re gonna get more and more videos about that. These channels only pick stories that have the drama because they’re interesting. Of course you’re not gonna hear a lot of happy endings or happy stories, these are stories about infidelity. Drama sells. These accounts probably also choose stories where the dudes can’t let go of their SOs because they know people like you will comment about it because of the frustration. Know that this isn’t truly representative of reality, you’re seeing curated and concentrated content about this topic. And if it is reality? What are you gonna do? Seal yourself off and never allow yourself to open up to people because of the potential risk of failure? That’d be pretty unhealthy and sad. Maybe try watching less of these videos so you’re less inundated with such negative content. I know it’s easier said than done because I struggle with it too (it’s so interesting!), but I keep in mind that these stories were handpicked and put together on purpose. Probably to generate engagement in the form of comments

Over half of marriages end in divorce. I've observed many friends and family go through the same process. It amazes me. My uncles wife left on Christmas eve and moved in with a criminal leaving her 2 kids. Catholic moms got boyfriends on the side. It jives with studies that say over half of women have back up men when they get married. Theres no commitment anymore. No shame.

I believe why so many guys delay the inevitable is because dating is different for men and women. Women can often go to a bar and pick up a guy that night. Women even on average get over breakups in half the time as men. Men will date down. Women not so much. It could take a long time for a guy to find a woman with any value to consider her a girlfriend.

Some advice: even being in an open relationship, a person can still cheat. The foundation of any relationship is communication and a healthy open relationship will involve all the members engaging in communication with each other. If one member of a Poly/open relationship is keeping their activities a secret from the others it still counts as cheating.

You can not fix people. People have to want to get better and also take initiative to heal. Don’t become someone’s doormat for years trying to get them to do better. OP in the first story needs to know that it’s okay to care for someone at a distance even though it freaking sucks. You’re better off without her. She’s playing a dangerous game and as an adult she definitely knows better. If you stay you could very easily end up spending the rest of your life watching someone destroy themself and continue to hurt you in the process. You have nothing to lose here, except a cheating wife who won’t provide you with anything. Cut your ties and move on.

If so why would she later ask if you wanted to open it up?? Also how did this part not click with you? She was saying two different things at the same time... When I first started dating my now husband we had been seeing each other for about a month when I asked him if I was his girlfriend at some point you should be asking about exclusivity. I probably wouldn’t bring that up on a first date but I also wouldn’t see somebody for months or even years on end without confirming that we were in an exclusive relationship and I think at a certain point it becomes assumed that your only dating that one person. She obviously didn’t believe she was in an open relationship if she was asking you for one so she obviously knew that you believed it was exclusive and let you believe that all this time even though she was seeing other people. Dump her. Even if you guys didn’t have a talk about exclusivity she obviously knew that you believed that you guys were exclusive and basically lied to you by not saying anything and is now trying to use that to backpedal. I do think it’s always a good idea to ask people what their expectations are in a relationship if they’re dating anybody else just in case but it’s still a really shitty thing for somebody to let you believe you’re in a exclusive relationship when they’re off seeing a bunch of other people

Story 1 and every story that involves it: real, diagnosed depression alters the chemistry of the brain, it changes the context of your mind and effects how you think and the choices you make, you cannot expect someone who is truly depressed to make the same choices or behave in the same manner as someone who is mentally well. One of the most common symptoms of depression is self destructive behaviour and someone who is having those impulses won't behave in the same manner as someone who is well and it is unreasonable to ask them to. The OP in story one says "Mental Illness, anxiety, depression are all valid but don't make her actions OK" which is just pure ignorance, her actions would not be OK for a mentally well person but for someone who is suffering from depression and anxiety they may have been the only choices she could make. If someone has a limiting physical condition then we as a society don't expect them to function at the same physical level as an able bodied person, the same should apply to someone who has a limiting mental condition.

First off. How you finna date, someone, for 10yrs and not get married? It takes the average guy 183 days (around 6 months) to determine whether he wants to marry his girl or not. So 10 yrs without marriage is just a waste of time. Secondly, that girl was the definition of daddy issues. Also OP was simping too much fam, he ignored all of the signs

I've been with my old man 16 years, and we're still not married. We have 6 kids, 4 together. With everyday life being so hectic, sometimes marriage just fades into a non-priority, especially if both partners were witness to their parents' toxic marriages.

Some couples and polyamorous relationships are fine with not bothering to get married plus get married and if necessary divorced costs money which might be too much for some spouses.

Marriage used to be a lifelong commitment. People took it seriously as there were severe repercussions to a person's reputation and career over infidelity. Not so much now with hook ups, divorce and baby daddy/mommy culture. Society doesn't care. It's only individual families and institutions that care about couples actually legally committing themselves and their children to each other, and if people don't have that connection/expectation, why bother spending a gazillion dollars on a spectacle when unspoken works? IMO if people want support from the system- child support, etc.- they need to be married under that system first. The government has been tracking and supporting marriages for taxes, population data and as vested interest in rising generations. If you're not part of that system, why on earth has that system allowed you and your irresponsibility to leech? To be clear I'm pro marriage. Restraint before marriage teaches the self control needed for lifelong fidelity. Children born to and raised by a mother and father are statistically proven to have the most stable upbringing (exceptions exist of course), and monogamy keeps everyone safe from things like STDs to a world and identity falling apart because a parent isn't actually yours. If you're gonna play, you should have to pay with vows and commitments to each other. It protects everyone involved, including neighbors and coworkers and friends. A marriage may be the commitment between mates, but it affects everyone around them and should be the foundational block of stability.

There is literally no difference between a committed relationship and getting married aside from legal paperwork. If you truly love each other shouldn't a committed relationship be enough instead of risking losing most of your assets due to the legalities of marriage in the case of divorce? I personally don't see any benefit to getting married but that's just my opinion.

That first guy I learned at a very young age thankfully, that when you date someone it’s not your responsibility to fix what’s wrong with them you can support them but if you keep trying to tell yourself I can fix them you’ll just it won’t end well. And also that last story it’s pretty much the woman saying I don’t feel attracted to you anymore I want to randomly fuck other people.

The open relationship story, OP just dump her and find someone else. When a person becomes a boyfriend or a girlfriend, it means the relationship is NOT open, unless you both agree before you both become boyfriend and girlfriend. Last story, OP, dude have a backbone. She has Zero respect for you and your her backup option. Have some pride and dumb her because she has and will cheat on you because she knows that you don't want to lose her. Well dude. There are very beautiful women out there with average looking guys because those average guys have confidence and wont take crap.

I’m reading between the lines here on the first story. She’s with a guy ten years and he never married her. He gets a promotion and wants to drastically change their lives by moving from a small town to a big city. She’s not really on board. She goes for him probably because he pushed her to because he wanted the promotion and larger salary and a big city life. As a woman I can tell you that we do know when we’re last place on your priority list. It’s obvious. Chances are, he’s gotten too used to having her, of calling the shots, making the decisions, and ignores her feelings. I’d bet the bank on it. She’s tired of it. Now she’s making a series of rash and stupid decisions based on emotion rather than sense because someone else showed her attention and love. She probably hasn’t felt loved in awhile despite what this guy says. She’s desperate for it, and jumping at the chance. I have a husband that I’ve been with forever-I know how used to you they get. Sometimes you become a fixture in the house-someone to wash up after them, have sex as needed, cook the food, etc. It’s like they stop seeing you really unless they need one of those things done. I totally get the feeling of wishing for more love or romance. And there have been times that other men were willing to provide that for me if I was willing. I wasn’t. The difference here is that I know better. I understand that “new” doesn’t always mean “better”, and new wears off. I’d just be in the same boat with someone else in time, and maybe in a worse relationship with a worse man like this girl. She let her heart lead instead of her brain. That’s not always wise or best for you. She’ll likely end up ten times worse off in every way than if she just stayed put and fought for what she needed. You can’t let them continue to treat you like an old shoe that’s comfortable and convenient to slip on. If you want to be valued as more-you have to demand it and not give in. It may be an inconvenience to the men up front-but your relationship will be better for it in the end, the sex will be more exciting, your confidence will be higher, and you both will be more happy together for that uncomfortable little adjustment that he had to make. It reminds me of an old country song “shake the sugar tree”. “Love you’re getting lazy, forgetting to give me sweet sugar words that I want to hear.” She goes on to sing about having to shake him up to wake him up to make him love her like he used to. So true of long relationships. They require maintenance checks, basically. You either grow together, or fall apart together. Your choice on how it ends.

Sounds like a very long and convoluted way of condoning cheating. If you feel that you aren't valued in a relationship, be an adult and discuss it with your partner. After the conversation, you're still not satisfied? Maybe it's time to be a big boy/girl, breakup and move on. There have been studies that show that after a couple of years, partners see each other more like brother/sister than romantic partners. It's a pretty common thing and most relationships don't survive the 7 year mark.

Say NO to "open relationship" . She was a cheater and be thankful you didn't marry her. You can't fix someone. They need to fix themselves. Mental illness is NOT an excuse to cheat. Story 2: She was gaslighting you. RUN FAST! Story 3: She is a liar and a cheater. She is gaslighting you, and it is time for a divorce. Story 4: This one is funny. She wants to bang her co-worker and that is why she wants an "Open Relationship". Don't be someone's plan B. Leave and find someone who can be faithful.
