I just realized that could upgrade the jumpers the other day. I just made my own with 12 gauge speaker wire, and the difference in sound was immediate and strong! When I bi-amped them before, I was trying hard to hear the difference and I think that I even tricked myself into wanting to hear something. Upgrading the jumper cables brought a true and immediate difference!

I am glad to have a happy report and I thank you for taking a moment to let me know that someone enjoyed the results. (I talk about this with my video on gratitude and this is one of the forms.) You also now understand my disrespect for those factory supplied jumpers. Happy listening, as always.

You are most welcome and thank you for taking the time to give gratitude. So many others deserve it as well. If you have not yet, please subscribe and tell others about my pretty much common sense approach to this hobby.

Remnants of Romex is great for jumpers in the electrical realm including as you pointed out bi-wire jumpers for speakers. I keep a box of wires of this type for various purposes. Thanks for pointing out that not all effective tweaks have to be expensive. In your example, 50 cents is more expensive than adjusting speaker placement, but cheaper than a package of Blue Tack 5 to 10 dollars for isolation purposes. John

Thank you, kindly, for your observations. There are plenty of times I just shudder at some of the things that are promoted as the "only way" when, in truth, there are more simple ways to get there. Then, there are moments I just mumble, "are you nuts?" I suppose most of it is well intentioned but misguided. But, I also know that putting a gold steering wheel on a Hyundai will make it terribly expensive but won't change the performance.

Well, I wouldn't be making use of Romex scraps. What quality copper is used in Romex? Right, it's copper clad aluminum. Not good quality. Good for your electric fan or blender.

Best to just get the Canarie biwire cables from Bluejeans.

Not a bad idea for those who are unskilled or just want to order it and be done.

Eric, I have had quite a few conversations over the years with several of the greatest speaker designers about bi-wiring, some still living, some not. More often times than not, it is improperly done by the user resulting in inferior performance. This became such a concern to Jim Thiel, that he eliminated it all together. It's a subject for another video and thank you. I'll do it. The other aspect is that often times the layout of the crossover for bi-wiring that it compromises and single wire approach. So, yes, getting those crappy gold plated over nickel over steel jumpers is a must at a minimum. Without question, I have heard bi-amping and tri-amping speakers do incredible things, especially with active speakers where the crossover is electrically powered on way or another. So, I don't strike out any approach until it is properly set up and implemented. In the end, the proof of the pudding is in the eat.

So you reckon manufacturers skimp out on 20c of copper wire resulting in significantly worse speakers? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! 🥲

Sam, I can not say why they do it other than convenience. There are many things made where a simple change results in improvements and it is not just limited to the audio industry.
