The 8.8 swap was so worth it on my 1992 Ranger. Managed to grab a 3.73 LSD, disc brakes and swapped over an 8.8 aluminum cover from a 2002 Explorer for less than $170 at my local junkyard then sold my stock rear end on OfferUp for $250 😂

Just got me a 99 Ranger 2.5 rwd. Thinking about doing this. Due to snow and bad rain in my area during the Winter/early spring time.

High quality tires really are worthwhile on these trucks, I have Nokians for summer and studded Nokians for winter, still going to do the LSD swap, though.

What did you pull this off of?

Did the driveshaft just bolt right up to the new axle?

No cuts or welds for this project right?

Nope, as long as you get one that is off of a Ford Ranger then there's no cutting or welding required.

@@RKAdventures45 okay so the explorers only had the different leaf mounts then that makes sense. Guess both my rangers have an 8.8 but one is a 2wd and it's an open 8.8 so might get a posi for it

@@brenthall7399 Yeah if you already have an 8.8 then it's probably best to just swap the carrier. I will say the carrier job on these can be quite a pain. You will have to have a press, will need to rent a jaw puller set, and be willing to fiddle for a long time with backlash and preload.
