Humanity is prone to extremes... especially when it comes to eschatology. In today's episode we talk about the power of living out Paul's words in 1 Thess. 4:11-12 "Live a quiet life and work with your hands"
For many in the ministry culture this can seem like a foreign concept. But for Christians, this should be one of our main goals regardless of our eschatological views.

C'mon! This was a big thing I had to overcome when leaving IHOPKC. I went through a period of about 5 years of just transforming my mindset and going from thinking ministry was the only thing I could ever do to coming to a point where accepting that having a family and actual daily life living normally, earning money to sustain myself and my life was a godly, good thing!

I wanted to conquer the world for Jesus. He wanted me to do the dishes. Took me 25 years to figure that out.

Spot on. I was going to a church caught up in NAR, Bethel, IHOP theology for some time in the 2000s, and and involved in leadership. I also had a full time job and have worked in healthcare my entire life. I found it increasingly difficult to reconcile “real life” with what I experienced in the church, namely a lack of work ethic among many of the people, pie in the sky ideals, poverty, etc. People wiling away their years “in ministry”, shunning personal development, and living the “missionary life” and really just being a burden to those who were working and giving finances to the ministry. This is a very good and pragmatic message that many caught up in that world need to hear.

I agree with what you're saying. I've experienced the same thing. Just want to point out that Bethel is so unlike IHOP in their teachings on eschatology and that they understand the value of hard work and that the pastor's job is to equip the people for their work. That's exactly what was taught two weeks ago at Bethel. There are a ton of business people and business owners at Bethel and a lot of support for them. Bethel values personal growth and their classes at the church on parenting, marriage, business, finances, and government reflects that.

Great thoughts. I would also add, there are seasons where God calls us to unpaid work - like caring for our young children or elderly family members.

And I would say, yes, there are seasons for or people called to ministry, too. It's not only either one or the other.

Such a good word. I've really taken this verse to heart. Almost a year ago, moved with my kids out of the city onto a farm in Saskatchewan. We're living quietly, working with our hands, and working towards a place where we won't be dependent on anyone. I've been in ministry before and part of the NAR world. So much happier to be out of it all and into reality.

I am so grateful for your words of encouragement and for reading the bible outloud and showing people how to break it down in a practical way! Everything you have been through , especially and inspite of how you were treated at Ihop, has prepared the ground of your heart creating good soil to produce much fruit! You and your family are so precious! Thank you! Words of wisdom and words of healing ❤❤❤

Love your heart Blaise. No one runs a marathon with the expectation to complete 26 miles soon without doing certain things like taking steps forward. Speaking of your life insurance business, wish I had individuals who Matthew25:40 know me, so that I could write them into my will which a life insurance policy would increase the significance thereof. As it stands now, since not even one person would want to give me a funeral or attend it if there was one, then if I am honest about the situation, there is no point in my purchasing a life insurance policy beyond that which I already have.

Not to mention that Christ himself told us to "do business (occupy) until I come." We are supposed to LIVE LIFE properly and to the best of our ability represent the Lord God Almighty in everything we do. Eschatology might be interesting to learn about but it's not the point of the gospel!
@maxemrich8778
@maxemrich8778 2 ай бұрын
Well, what does Jesus mean by that? What is part of "doing business" or "occupying"..? By intuition I would say primarily he means for us to do the work that he began until he comes back. I think that's the big theme. So we should be careful not to throw out the baby with the bathwater and think just living "normally" is all that God calls us to do. So what is all part of it? Well, I wouöd say everything that the whole Bible and especially Jesis and the NT models and encourages and commands us to do. So yes, just live a quiet love in a way.. - but also not;) also preach, pray, sing to God, Health the sick, cast out demons and be witnesses in every way. But yes, it can be helpful probably to remember that it's not only all spiritual stuff and we are not some special humans that are exempt from just normal business of life.

I don’t think you are skilled at speaking and you tend to over think and ramble on while going down side paths of explanations. Your wife is the better speaker. She always gets to the point without rambling on.
