I’mBetter Than you I think the first half was really good at making feel uneasy. But as soon as other clones where introduced... I was appalled at how fast the movie shifted for me. I was confused for a lot of it. I understood a lot of the messages in it, but some of it you really had to reach for because there wasn’t much explaining on Peele’s part.
@ducamorisable
@ducamorisable 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheNewFD12346 Exactly, people keep saying how the movie was ambiguous and what not. But having plot holes and being ambiguous are two very different things... I mean literally nothing in the movie made any sense whatsoever. Also the entire theatre (including myself) was laughing their asses off. As soon as Red spoke for the first time i just couldn't take the movie seriously, and what's with all the weird faces and noises? Nobody in the theatre was scared, or even on edge, they were all laughing... There were 2 parents with 4 kids (around say 12 years old) sitting in same row as me and the kids were laughing. I mean as a horror film the movie is bad, and as a movie it's still bad do to all the plot holes. I mean IT wasn't that scary, but i still thought it was a great film. Why people praise this one so much is beyond me. It's like that episode of South Park where the kids right up a nasty ass book with no meaning, and people just read into the whole thing too much...

Honestly, the movie was predictable and the end was sorta.. not as good as it couldve been. I did enjoy watching it for the most part, but it wasn't the thriller aspect or the conclusion that. It was mostly the humor and deconstruction of troupes. Such as a flare being a sort of magic fireball gun, or that we have to have the main cast die all the way down to 1 character, with a "uuuh, but is the evil really gone?" kind of ending.

The movie is a lot of fun, however it's not as scary nor socially-conscious as it tries to be...because it's government conspiracy explanation kills the horror because it suddenly becomes silly. (Did the clones call a factory to get 300 million redsuits, scissors, and gloves manufactured? How did they organize to get fitted into the redsuits? Etc. Suddenly, it became laughable. If it didn't try to be about the government, it would have been mysterious and scary...instead he tried to EXPLAIN it....then it fails.

Did we all watch the same movie? I thought it was an average film at best. Lupita Nyong'o's acting was so good but the story fell flat, and there was no chemistry between her and Winston Duke. There wasn't a second in the movie when I felt scared or anxious. The plot was so far fetched and unexplained that I caught myself constantly questioning the events that I was watching. I predicted the ending 10 minutes into the film. I believe this was a missed opportunity for Jordan Peele. 9/10? Ok Joe....

And there are plenty of movies I watch and I just "go with it" and have fun. Which I did through most of "US" but i think he over explained things. And for me personally the premise that...(SPOILER WARNING!!!!) That every single American has a clone living under ground and eatting raw rabbits and mimicking every single move we make. Was asking a bit too much for my suspension of disbelief. I think this movie lies more heavily on metaphors like the film Mother! And I just wasnt expecting that leaving me kinda disappointed. @Andrew Man111 When most black lead movies have almost white cast or most hollywood movies with mostly white cast and few token black characters. Sure bro, in Hollywood 80% are white centered or full white cast centered movies. Diversity had to be done in hollywood for many purposes but one point I can give you that shoving every basic white mediocre movies to the rest of the world can get backfire sometimes. Entire world is not white at all and hollywood is trying to represent it. Since hollywood needs whole world to watch their movie they need to represent some aspects of every race as a marketing purpose too. Also whitewashing is a more common practice and were done at higher rate than blackwashing nowadays, while I don't agree with both but asians are facing nowadays worst because hollywood white people portraying most asian characters in hollywood. Black people broke that streak of whitewashing recently in coming years yet I can't agree with the methods they are going with black or whitewashing. Funny thing is Hollywood portrayed most black movies -vely about blacks in general but +vely about whites in general. Funny thing is you afraid to mention the how white hollywood handles racism. Be unbiased for once!!!

This movie is just Ok. It's NOT great. The acting from Lupita was awesome tho and the daughters shadow was the most creepy part of it. This film is a Clusterfuck! that does not know what it wants to be, Sci-fi or Horror; and has too many ideas thrown in. There was no high moment, it was unnecessarily long but the ending was ok in my opinion. It's a 5/10 for me. Get Out is way better, wait for a DVD rental. I am sorry, but I don't think this movie deserves that 9/10 rating. They explain jack shit near the end of the film and expects us to just role with it. *SPOILER:* Okay so they explain to us that there are clones underground, and they were made to control us. But never in the film, did I find a point where they explain, where did the thought of creating them come from? What did they hope to achieve by creating them? Who created them? How did they create them? They are clones, but how did they manage to make every citizen in fucking America? All they tell us is, that they've been there all this time, and their purpose was to control us, there's nothing else other than that and that it went wrong. There's nada. I get that a sense of dread in horror movies come from the mystery, but I feel like with such a convoluted idea like this, SOME OF IT HAS TO BE EXPLAINED. And it really pissed me off when I did not get any explanation to that, when I don't even know what the fuck makes them function, if they are human, if they were created from human dna? Was it blood? Was it........bedroom stuff? WHAT? EXPLAIN MOVIE! EXPLAIN!

@@awindaphilip I'd argue Peele doesn't want us to try and interpret what the OP was asking. After all, if he cared more about that and letting us try and interpret, he'd have made the origins a bigger deal in the story. You can tell because the things he wants us to interpret like the Hands Across America bit, the nature of the relationship between person and their tethered, and whether the boy knows about the true identity of his mom are all given heavy emphasis in the film. On the other hand, the brief explanation we get is just a dialogue dump. To me, that reeks of some sort of studio involvement. As in, Peele never gave much of, no, or an unsatisfactory explanation - at least in the studio's eyes. Then, the studio executives or producers watched a rough cut and decided that some sort of explanation had to be given. If this happened towards the end of or after filming, Peele might not have had enough time to do a more proper explanation (as dialogue dumps are the worst form of storytelling and we know he's better than that).

Jordan Peele gave the cast eleven horror films to watch so they would have "a shared language" when filming: Jaws (1975), Dead Again (1991), The Shining (1980), The Babadook (2014), It Follows (2014), A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), The Birds (1963), Funny Games (1997), Martyrs (2008), Let the Right One In (2008), and The Sixth Sense (1999). The Bible verse that continuously appears in the film (Jeremiah 11:11) reads: "Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them." The overhead shot of the Wilsons driving to the vacation home, along with the synchronized speech and mannerisms of the twins, is a reference to The Shining (1980). Ironically, the name of the Tylers' unhelpful virtual assistant, Ophelia, derives from the Greek "ophéleia," meaning "help." When the family is figuring out where they can be safe from the detached, Lupita Nyong'o's character suggests Mexico. Lupita Nyong'o was born in Mexico City. Dahlia appears to have scars on her cheeks, reflecting Kitty's plastic surgery (mentioned earlier). It likely is also why she cuts her own face later. By the end of the film, each member of the Wilson family has killed their own respective counterparts. Red is the only Tethered that uses language, due to the fact that she is the real Adelaide and had learned to speak before being trapped underground by her Tethered long ago. When Adelaide is lying on the couch, she sees a spider on the table crawling past a larger toy spider. This image foreshadows the 'doppelgänger' theme in the movie. Elisabeth Moss (Kitty) starred in The One I Love (2014), which was also about doppelgangers, albeit shape-shifting ones. Jordan Peele has said that one of the inspirations for the film was The Twilight Zone: Mirror Image (1960). When the Wilsons' "shadows" first appear in the driveway, they are holding hands--foreshadowing the Tethered's bloody recreation of "Hands Across America." The ambulance toy that blocks the closet door foreshadows the end of the film.
