@wlfmanjack
@wlfmanjack 7 жыл бұрын
never saw the movie, but I can tell its not racist, but I can tell it plays on that white on black fear that some black people have. Not saying there aren't white people who are afraid of blacks, but usually the kind of content that pertains to a comedic stand point, where you know you're not suppose to take it serious, where as a horror movie is more direct and tries to instill fear based on a certain concept, even if you didn't have said fear to begin with. I knew such a film would be a success and I don't see anything wrong with anti sjws liking this film. However in the same way the purge made a clear parallel between rich and poor. This one is more on the nose with white on black. So I also see why others aren't comfortable with this concept. Its not the same as say casting a white actor to play a serial killer, as that plays on an reinforces the fear people generally have on serial killers. Where as a movie such as this, is more focus on bringing out fear of white people and/or reinforcing it, in a time when we need unity the most. Again, not saying I think its particular racist, but might not have been the best time to release such a film. Then again, it might have been the best time, in terms of profits. Can't deny, with all the hate towards white people that such a film would be more profitable today than say six years ago

***SPOILER ALERT*** I think one of the things that stuck with me the most is when Chris asks "Why black people?" And the guy responds with "I don't give a shit what color you are." I think it's a subtle way of saying that everything people say to Chris was never truly about his race, but to him it was. It's a lot how people today feel that they're not racist but have certain perspectives towards people of color. Really awesome movie and well-written.
@maciejkowalski2759
@maciejkowalski2759 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. This particular guy was blind, so he REALLY couldn't care less about Chris's skin color. He only basically wanted his eyes. It was his purpose. He wasn't dying, he didn't want a new body to take advantage of, all he cared about was the eyes. When it comes to other people, their motivation can be different. Black people really are known to have better genetic predispositions for some types of physical exercise. That the top runners in the world are black, that the best basketball players are black, or that most of the best boxers are black, is not a coincidence. It is revealed early on in the movie that the grandfather of the family, who started the entire movement, lost to Jesse Owens in the qualifying to the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and as the father explains, he "almost" got over it. Which means he envied the abilities nature gave to Owens, making him superior precisely because he was a black person. Then, when he's about to die, he chooses to take a body of a black person to enjoy these abilities - run like a black person, which he, being white, never could do.

Seriously though, as a black man, I find the Hollywood fetish of the black man white girl dynamic extremely weird, and yes it most certainly is a fetish. News alert, there are plenty of other groups of people besides blacks and whites that have racial tensions. What about a White and Asian couple, Black and Hispanic, Black and Arab, Arab and White, Black and Asian, Asian and Hispanic and so on? It's like the folks at Hollywood want to show how progressive they are, yet they aren't being nearly as "diverse" as they claim to be. Or, is it possibly because if you made a couple that consists of a Black man and a Latina, you'd have no one to paint as evil racists who just hate disenfranchised minorities and what not? Although I have not seen the movie(and I don't plan on it either), it's literally just a reverse burn the coal pay the toll film. I've no problem with black and white couples, because I'd be a hypocrite because I find myself more attracted to women of Hispanic decent than black women. But Hollywood has a fetish with it and I definitely know why, but that's a whole nother can of worms.

The relationship between the blacks and the whites in America is much older and has more political/social tension than any other race combinations you listed. I’m not saying Hollywood should or shouldn’t make movies about interracial couples, but I do think it is important to recognize that blacks simply have more history in America than Asians, for example.

Am I the only one who was reminded slightly of 2006's *The Wicker Man* remake by this movie, not in the plot or twist but the atmosphere and awkward tone between the protagonist *vs* the mysterious residents? Let me elaborate: Here, you have Chris experiencing a strangeness of everyone feeling progressively off, the sense that something is not right (albeit for different reasons), especially when he and Rod start investigating their missing mutual old friend Andre. This made me think about Edward Malus' dynamic with the women on Summerisle. *#RodIsGoals* (cue gay jokes, lol)

I loved this movie, and what I loved most about it is, it all made sense. how they lured the black guys in, how they trapped them, and why it took so long for the guy to finally say "fuck this! I'm out." True, in the real world, hypnosis doesn't work this way, or on everybody. Also I would have left wayyy sooner, but thats because I'm a paranoid fuck, most people would have stuck around for just as long.

Hansel Roman I think I would've left after the family gathering way to weird I watch horror movies a lot so living in the woods middle of nowhere is eerie then a party the next day with multiple white people and black people being possessed would've had me going crazy the guy in brown seemed possessed right of the bat mother hypnotic is a huge eye opener also as well

a_clockwork_paradox88 any evidence, or just talk? In my 20 years alive I've never seen any reputable or respectable citizen, individual, company, or organization frown upon, condemn, or even take notice to an interracial couple because they were interacial. 50 years ago, it was definitely taboo, more than taboo, it was dangerous, but claiming that it is still taboo in America is absurd.

That depends on the community, and your definition of "taboo". The "flyover states" consist of a lot of entirely white communities that are uncomfortable with interracial dating because they have less exposure to other races than in bigger cities. I grew up in one, my sister-in-law is from Guatemala and they weren't outright disapproving but everyone treated her very differently. I don't think it was really racism so much as being uncomfortable around people who aren't just like you.
