You see his name on the rebuilt Washington monument at the beginning that’s it though,what sticks out for me is when they shoot the alien at Area 51 Whitmore says they are travelling planet to planet there whole civilisation,how could they then have an even bigger ship just sitting around with the queen in surely she would have taken her ship the first time round and attacked earth? Also seems like they had different priorities,first film was natural resources second film they wanted the earths core but they also lead us to believe one ship landed and went after the earths core but surely that kind of info would have been relayed in the first film when attacking the mother ship?
@agsystems8220
@agsystems8220 10 ай бұрын
@@Makeitso2023 Well they don't necessarily need all the resources in the balance that occurs naturally. The smaller ships may go for genetic material and maybe some other near surface resources such as gems and crystals. Maybe even the large block of super clear ice in Antarctica could be valuable and hard to artificially synthesise. The volume of a core is vastly larger than the volume of the crust, so you probably don't need to rip the core out of every planet you visit. There is no point sending enough equipment to do so if you are just going to strip a couple of km of the surface. Alternatively the first ships could be sent to do prep work, or determine whether it is even worth going to a particular site. The ship drilling could have been a pilot/sampling drill, rather than harvesting in earnest. Before committing a harvester to the planet they might want to make sure that the core consists of what they expect and there are not likely to be any technical hiccups. They then decided to send a harvester to deal with humans before they became more of a threat, hence the change of priorities. If they went to the effort of sending a harvester anyway they might as do the core. As for whether the information would have been available in the first film? It is very plausible that it would not be. Fog of war and all that. Not inconceivable that a pilot grunt did not 100% grasp how their resource harvesting worked, and even if they did the glimpse into their mind may not have been clear on the details. Not going to lie, that seemed like one of the more reasonable parts of the plot!

@@Makeitso2023I think the first time the Harvesters came they maybe planned to strip the surface of resources slowly after killing us off to ensure no resources were lost or wasted. The first time they came they thought we were primitive so they didn’t think of going all out. However after we beat them the first time they realized we were a threat so they scrapped the plan to slowly strip-mine Earth and just went full force “blow the damn planet up and harvest what’s left afterwards” even though that risked the destruction of some potential resources.

Boy howdy it sure was convenient for the CGI department of this movie that those fusion bombs that were said to have a blast radius of several HUNDRED miles only made a dinky little explosion that didn't even fill the shield or kill the little fighter ships still inside it. They didn't even turn the ground beneath the big ship into a crater of molten glass like you'd expect from a yield that could probably be measured in teratons! What a happy outcome...

@@TrickyPJM752 The reason why people were disappointed by this is because the sequel missed many opportunities compared to the first one. The first movie is a homage to all classic B Movie alien invasion films and UFOlogy, while the sequel is bought nothing new to the table as it took any elements from pop culture sci-fi literatures, such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Destiny, Halo, the Alien Franchise, and Starcraft.

I'd always assumed the reason the explosion wasn't larger and didn't fill the entire shield dome, was because the queens ship' shield held back the majority of the explosion for an instant before failing, thus reducing the blast? A similar scene takes place in the new Dune film, where House Harkonnen's bombs penetrate the shields of the ships that are parked on the surface, the bombs essentially drill through the shield, then detonate inside the shield, destroying the ship, but the detonation engulfs the ship first, then the shield fails.

This is not a movie that withstands intensive analytical thinking very well. But that's OK. Check your brain at the door, get a jumbo popcorn, candy, and drinks, and just enjoy the show. It's escapist fun, no need for it to be a paragon of rigorously analytically correct tactical and strategic warfighting against an incomprehensibly superior alien adversary.
