Even though Usain Bolt was ALMOST unbeatable in 2008, one upset changed his entire career forever.

@@whoiswatchingyourback Yeah, I think even though he's the fastest person ever, he depends on his long strides and top speed to overtake anyone that got a good head start. In reality though, a lot of those smaller sprinters would catch him in 60m.

@@whoiswatchingyourback Isn't 100m considered sprinting? It's the shortest Olympic running distance and it's basically a test of explosive starting and top speed, both of which are considered factors of sprinting. 60 meters might reward explosiveness and acceleration more than top speed, but I'd say that any distance where endurance is not the limiting factor is a sprint.

@416yaadie
@416yaadie 2 жыл бұрын
It's not that. His legs couldn't handle the rounds. One run he would kill you but to repeat his body didn't recover fast enough to come back and go even faster. Remember at that time you did 4 rounds in 2 days. I see it all the time in training with my athletes. They will give you one or 2 good runs but they can't sustain it when they gotta come back with a certain amount of rest

@@abone2pick in 2008 you had 4 rounds what might look like a jog he is still expending alot energy. I can speak from past experience where you would do a run feels easy and your expecting the next one to be faster when you try a little harder but the next run feels harder at the end. Asafa ran 9.90 in semis it obvious his body didn't recover fast enough come back and go 9.8 or 9.7. if you remember the race he got out good but when he tried to extend himself his body said no. That's a sign of fatigue. What he needed to fix that was running more 200 but because he had a groin injury right before he broke the world record he didn't much 200s after 2005 and you see the results in his championship performances. The race where he ran 9.83 and Bolt ran 9.77 that's basically should have been how the race in Beijing should have happen but that didn't happen!

Asafa openly showed to the world how his days and nights are prior to great competition opportunities, he totally lacks of sleep and can't quite seem to keep stress under control. His competiion anxiety was physically damaging, if you noticed in this video he was chilling while beating Bolt like another day at the office but during the most important races he pushes like crazy because he's obviously not relaxed. (This is visible in the race) Nothing to take off Asafa, an Amazing Athlete would have loved to see him win an individual medal😄

Powell didn't have the killer instinct needed to perform at his best (and possibly dominate) at the Olympic Games or at the World Championships. Having watched U.S. sprinter Michael Norman since he was in the 10th grade in High School, I fear that he might also have this same mental block. Only time will tell. Don't try to be too "nice", if you want to win and be a legend.

The runners start following the curve of the track well before they cross the finish line. It might be interesting to see if they do better on a track that allows them to finish while still well on the straight.

I believe I saw the first Powell victory plus also at least one more enacted much the same way, ie classic matchup between Driver and Finisher. Neither race seemed as intense as the Olympics of course. But this is a good example of how your mind affects you performance. I don't remember if you're the guys who did Powell's 9.74 race, run before Bolt's first world record, but a lot of us feel that was Powell's chance to go under 9.7 but he just coasted.

Last I check Powell did a great job b4 Usian stepped on the tracks. Give Powell his flowers. U had a lot of greats until Usain stepped on the track. So don't discredit Powell because not a lot could beat him. Now both Powell and Usian retired but u still can't count Jamaica out in the men's track and field. The females are dominating every race so look out for the next Jamaican men track and field sprinters. It's going be epic.
