She doesn't care about the rules. She only uses them to punish Shiyi. It's one of the reasons she gave the household management to Lianfang. It was her way of turning her into the legal wife/it's the reason Lianfang lost her mind trying to protect something that was never hers to begin with...The GM caused all the turmoil in her family.

Well she let her prejudice for Shiyi cloud her judgement. She doesn't care that she saved the entire Xu family from ruin at the hands of her beloved Lianfang because it was her scheme in the first place. She used the soup kitchen as a way to push Lingyi closer to Lianfang. She was hoping for Lianfang's victory so that Lingyi could hold her in his heart. It was all one big scam/it didn't work out the way that she planned. So of course she's going to protect Lianfang.

@@MsFly999 well his mother never gave him a chance to grow up. While Lingyi was off fighting wars to restore the Xu family name...she was too busy allowing him to do whatever he wanted. When he screwed up she used money to cover it up. She never taught him to take responsibility for his actions so in the end he became useless. It wasn't until Shiyi entered the picture that he began to change. He took a giant leap forward once his mother's influence was taken away/Lingyi started guiding him.

completely agree @pam Having been around a few snobs (modern world take), no matter what you do or bring to the table, i always see you as low class/scum/unequal footing, sub human!... even if you invented a Dyson and make us rich - Big Madam cant see Shiyi for dust. How can i look at a "concubine feet washer born" person and think you are better than a main wife born. Impossible.

Well the GM did her a great disservice when she gave her the power/authority that was meant for the legal wife. She wanted to appease Lianfang after she chose to become a concubine. She also wanted to make a statement to Shiyi that in her heart Lianfang is his legal wife. Unfortunately just because she wished it to be so doesn't mean that it was...especially not where Shiyi is concerned. He wasn't going to ignore his legal wife to puff up his mother's little favorite pet. The GM is the cause of all the problems within the Xu family because she appointed Lianfang into the position that belonged to Shiyi. She ignored what was right in front of her because she put Lianfang's happiness above the safety of the Xu family. Remember assigning the duties of the soup kitchen over to her was a scheme designed to make Lingyi fall in love with her. She told Lianfang that he holds people in his heart so she was giving her a chance to impress him but it all backfired...because it's Lianfang. While Shiyi was busy saving the entire family from Lianfang's action...the GM was finding ways to protect her. Lianfang never takes responsibility for her actions...and why should she when the GM openly defends her. Lianfang still doesn't understand that Lingyi is different from his mother. It's not about status that impresses him but a person's character/her character is rotten to the bones.

The GM tries his best to please Lianfang for HER decision to become Lingyi's concubine. In general, GM wanted the best, but it turned out - as always. Lianfang is stupid if she thinks that her unhappy and pitiful look will touch him and he will forget that through her fault the family almost ended up on the brink of destruction. The argument that she did not want to, but Auntie Zhang was deceived and she is her nanny, of course, is simply murderous. It is for these reasons that they should not be punished. Insolence of the highest order. Lianfang and her entourage were never interested in the well-being and honor of the Xu family, but only for their personal gain. For GM and Lianfang, the rules of the family exist solely to satisfy their own ambitions. They never use them, for the true good of the family. Lingyi is really very angry with his family, their connivance and irresponsibility almost instilled in collapse, and his beloved Shiyi suffered. He's not going to let anything or anyone get away with it. His mother is foolish if she thinks that he will give in to her in this matter. She must have forgotten the row he caused when Shiyi was kicked out of the house. Back then it was just an insult. There was much more at stake now.

@@Irynash11 The GM and Lianfang were perfect for each other...lol They're inept in planning anything that has to do with winning Lingyi's favor or showing Lianfang in a new light. She chose to harm his son so that she could appear to be a caring, affection and loving mother to him...It backfired and Shiyi was put in charge of his care. They will do whatever it takes to install Lianfang in his heart rather he wants it or not...His own mother doesn't know him/she ignores what she doesn't like in order to appease herself. When they were talking about how Lingyi changed since Shiyi married into the family. She was ready to kick everyone out...claiming that Lingyi was tired...lol She didn't want them to continue because it would've hurt Lianfang's feelings. She was still trying to get Lianfang to pursue him even more/knowing that Shiyi has his heart would put a wrench in their plans. The GM wasn't giving up because she's obsessed with Lingyi/Lianfang being together. She told Yizhen that she was hoping they would've developed mutual affections for each other. She's too stupid to realize it's not going to happen. Lianfang doesn't know how to take responsibility for her actions so of course what happen with the nanny couldn't have been her fault. In her eyes...the Nanny was deceived by the Ou family as if that makes it an acceptable reason for almost harming the family. She's been pretending to care about the Xu family for months but at this point her own words deceive her. The GM is the only one that still believes her words. It's why she stopped Lingyi from punishing her. She thought that she still had control over him. She should've known that he wasn't going to let it go. Lianfang has proven over/over again that she can't run the household without causing problems. The GM is foolish.

@@shontelagrone8713 I agree, it's just that MG never took the time to understand her own son, something Shiyi started to do once she noticed Lingyi's nightmares. But GM was always concerned more about appearance rather than substance. Because even her coaching of Lianfang falls short because they are both too shallow and self-absorbed to do the best thing for the family. And even in the moment of punishment she would rather protect Lianfang's feelings then to deal with the issues she's causing. Lingyi gives me the warm-and-fuzzies when he angrily relays what happened to his wife and when he questions Lianfang about what would happen if she messed up. Foreshadowing her slander of Shiyi and her work w/the refugees at the Pavillion.

@@arilu89x she didn't care about his happiness because she wanted to rebuild the wealth/prestige of the Xu family off of his back. He was only useful to her as a cash cow. It's one of the reasons it took her forever to admit that he was in love with Shiyi. Her entire family saw the changes in him after he married her but she just couldn't accept it. She was slowly losing control of him. He started sticking up for his wife/going against her orders. She couldn't see that Lianfang was using her because she thought that the GM had control over her son. Every effort they put into manipulating his feelings blew up in their faces because they didn't understand the first thing about him. The reason they got along so well is because they're two peas in a pod. The GM killed her unborn grandchild when she orchestrated concubine Qin's miscarriage. Lianfang killed Yuanniang and her unborn child so that she could claim Lingyi for herself. They both believed they were justified in their actions. He was in protective mode. It should've been a clue to his entire family that Shiyi's safety and well being was his top priority. Lianfang should've took a hint at this point...but she's not the brightest bulb in the socket....lol

O marquês tinha 2 concubinas no começo e a irmã da Shyi como esposa legal, Liafang é prima dele e a grande senhora a considera uma filha, por isso quando a irmã da Shyi ficou doente ela queria que o marquês se casasse com ela no futuro e se tornasse a esposa legal, sabendo disso a irmã da Shyi bolou um plano para que ela fosse pega quase sem roupa com o marquês, por isso ela se torna a terceira concubina, mas pelo que já vi da série o marquês não gosta nem um pouco dela e por isso até onde eu vi, não dormiu com a Liafang.

@@clotildesperger2806 a mulher que aparece é esposa do filho mais velho da família Xu, o verdadeiro herdeiro, mas ele foi morto por ordem do imperador por alguma trama da família Ou junto com o pai dele e do Marquês, se não fosse isso essa senhora seria a futura senhora da casa Xu e não a Shyi, que seria como a Danyang a esposa de um dos filhos da casa Xu, mas não a senhora principal. A grande senhora não matava as concubinas, o marquês que não tinha muitas e nunca quis tantas, ele não gosta de nenhuma.

Ele só tem dois filhos, o que é filho da irmã da Shyi e um com a concubina Wen (a rica), os dois são meninos, a outra concubina não tem filhos porque é estéril, por algo que a grande senhora fez se não me engano, a Liafang é nova e acredito que o marquês nunca dormiu com ela e como ele não gosta de nenhuma das antigas ele quase não dorme com nenhuma, por isso a pouca quantidade de filhos.
