In this video I show how to easily up your conversion game by using blue stuff molds in combination with green stuff sculpting. I sculpt a fur pelt with a paw on this Emperor's Spears space marine and I show some of the uses I've found for Blue Stuff across my Warhammer 40k Space Wolves force. This skill is a must have in your toolbox, as only your imagination is the limit when it comes to making moulds of cool bits for your miniatures!

Great stuff! Blue stuff is also sold as oyumaru if someone can’t find it. It’s white/clear under this name.

Old metal bits are great for this because you can heat them up in the water too. Warm pewter + warm bluestuff and you get quite a lot of working time to work the mould into all the crevases. I also like using lego to build walls around the mould and some blocks to press downward to apply equal pressure.

As someone who is starting a Imperial fist army and wants to make cool capes and heraldry for chapter hero’s and stuff, I have to thank you massively for this video otherswise I have to buy $100+ boxes on eBay for a single bit. I always wondered how people made custom green stuff models for Chapter Master Valark and now I finally know

Glad to have inspired you! Must say though that the person who did at least the latest custom Valrak model (@anphiarus on IG) is just an absolute wizard at sculpting and I don't think he has to use moulds like us peasant level sculptors like myself 😉

The first time in a long time that The Algorithm introduced me to a new (to me) hobbyist that I like and is useful! Thanks for making this video. Liked and Subbed and looking forward to more and looking through your back catalog! I have some clear Oyumaru (or whatever) and I’ve been wondering where to start on it to get used to it and practice. This seems like the ideal! I need to make some ragged cloaks and Dark Angels hooded helmets for my Successor Chapter. Here we go!

great tutorial! i've seen a few hobby channels using blue stuff to cast putty or sprue goo, and was impressed by the ingenuity… but this is the one that made me think i should have a go myself. the definition you've achieved with the gs, and the selection of "bits" to create fluffy decorations (pun not intended) is really good. your sculpting is ace, too! "fur" has always looked a bit flat when i've tried to do it before; i'll try your tip about nudging the gs into "waves" as i go. cheers!

I'm not aware of signing any kind of contract when I buy a simple physical object that says I can't duplicate it directly or make my own copy of it. If I buy a gun, or an engine, or a pizza, I'm legally allowed to make my own personal working copies out of my own materials.

I have a Thing called Oumaru and it is pretty much blue stuff but I always find it so much more softer so I can't use some thing rigid like green stuff to mold thing 😅😅 but I always wanted to see what happens when I use liquid resin. Any how great video😁😁
@RaddiCraft
@RaddiCraft 3 жыл бұрын
I thought oumaru and blue stuff are the same thing, but I guess I was wrong! I've mainly tried GS and a cheap 2-part epoxy with this stuff, really prefer GS because the epoxy is quite frail when dry.

To be honest I really don't use a lot of those just because I haven't been happy with the results yet. If I can find out ways to do that to a level that I'm pleased with then yes, I'd consider that! For the general principle there are a few videos out already however if you want to give it a shot.

In terms of morality with using these techniques with games workshop models, if your using GW bits to make the mould, and using GW green stuff (well if you tell them it's their green stuff 🤫🤫🤫), to then put decoration on your GW model then I cant see why you should worry.

I think making full copies of gw models is ok cuz the way they treat their consumers but duplicateing bits from non 3d printed 3rd party bits isn’t ok but a one or 2 time copy just for a spare bit is ok
@voxkine9385
@voxkine9385 3 жыл бұрын
Can’t say I see a problem with the morality here. Assuming you are editing/customizing a GW model, and not wholesale making a mould of an entire model, there really isn’t anything to be upset about. It’s the same thing as if you shave off aspects of a model imo. As for using their own pieces for moulds, I’d say it would only matter if they put out a packaged product with the pieces you want. Let’s say they put out a batch of wolf pelts that go on these models. Yea, then I’d see it like making moulds of entire models, where they are selling a product that you aren’t buying. However, if they don’t sell a bits package with the pieces you want, you aren’t actually hurting them in any way, as they were always going to get $0 from you, irregardless of your moulds.
@RaddiCraft

Yeah that's pretty much how I've also thought about it for myself! I wouldn't be buying ten Ragnar models or ten kits of terminators just to get some wolf heads or paws etc.
