The CakeSafe Center Rod making it's own hole in your cake boards is what keeps your cake so safe and secure.
The general rule of thumb is that if a knife can cut through your cake boards then the CakeSafe Center Rod can too.

Thank you for the video. For a mdf cake base on the bottom, do I need to predill my own hole, or will cake safe rod be able to punch through that mdf board?

Hi Maggie! Great question. You want to pre-drill your MDF boards. We like to recommend a 2 inch hole so you don't have to worry about exactly centering your cake in the CakeSafe.

How does the cake do hold itself up once the center dowel is out? This is a great product for first time cake deliverers like myself.

Another great question! The only time you need a center dowel is when you're moving the cake, and the only time you're moving the cake it will be secure in the CakeSafe. Once you remove the cake from the CakeSafe the center rod is the very last thing you remove once the cake is set up on the display table. If the cake is in the middle of the dance floor and you worry about people bumping into the table, you can certainly bring a center dowel with you and insert it into the small 3/8" hole left by the CakeSafe center rod. Then smooth a dab of buttercream over the hole if you do not have a cake topper, and the hole disappears! Let me know if you have any other questions.

You said in your previous response above that the only time you need a center rod is when you are moving the cake. How am I supposed to feel confident to even pick up a super tall 5 tier cake to put it inside this box if it’s not doweled yet? Or do you build the box around the cake?

Thank you for the question! You can assemble the cake on the CakeSafe’s base so you never have to move it without the center rod. And you’ll still insert your perimeter dowels, solely leaving out your center dowel. 👍👍 My direct email is CakeSafeRachel@gmail.com, just in case you have more questions and want to contact me directly. I also welcome you to join the CakeSafe Crusaders Facebook Group. Customers post their CakeSafe deliveries every day and love to answer questions too! ❤️

Hi,does this rod go through the thick cake drums easy as it goes through the thin ones in the video, also once you remove the rod once the cake is out the cake safe how safe would the cake be to move by someome else ? Lets say i delivered the cake then they decided to move the cake to a different area for some.reason and there was no dowel in the centre through all the cakes ? Just wondering if that ever happened and they did decide to move the cake as it had been put in the wrong area lets say because this being the cake and being moved by somebody who doesnt know how heavy the cakes are probably wouldnt keep it straight and opps its ends up all over the floor because they didnt relise thete was no dowel in thw cantre and tipped the cake whilst moving on a hot day and it was a buttercream one lets say

Fantastic questions! The center rod easily goes through cake drums that are 1/2 inch thick or thinner, and made from a material that a knife can pierce through (ex: cardboard or foam core). Anything thicker or made from a material like wood or plastic will need a 2 inch hole drilled in it ahead of time. We say 2 inches so you don't have to worry about exactly centering you cake inside the CakeSafe Box. The CakeSafe's center rod is 3/8 inch thick so 2 inches gives you plenty of room. If you have any worries about someone moving your tiered cake after it is left at the venue we suggest cutting a center dowel to size and bringing it with you. After you remove the cake from the CakeSafe you can insert your center dowel into the hole left by the center rod. Then smooth a small dab of buttercream over the top, and it looks flawless! Or if you have a topper, you don't even need to bother with the buttercream smoothed over. If you have any other questions my direct email is CakeSafeRachel@gmail.com. I'm so happy to help!

So, just to clarifying, I SHOULD NOT buy the boards with the pre-made hole in the center? Sometimes it's punched out completely, and sometimes it's perforated and not punched out. What are your opinions on the perforated hole vs a completely solid board. Technically the hole on the perforated board isn't punched out, but does the perforations compromise the integrity of the board's stability when using the CakeSafe?

Thanks for the question! Correct, DO NOT buy the boards with the pre-made hole. It doesn't matter if the center is gone or if it's perforated. You want the CakeSafe's center rod to make it's own snug hole in every cake board. This is what keeps your cake stable in the CakeSafe. Let me know if you have any other questions. You can also email info@cakesafe.com. Thank you! - Rachel

Must the cakes be chilled for them to hold up? Or does this also work with room temperature cakes?

Great question. If you're a professional baker and used to transporting your cakes unrefrigerated because, for example, you use fondant then you can keep delivering unrefrigerated with the CakeSafe. However if you're new to baking, or using buttercream without fondant you will want to refrigerate your cake overnight before using the CakeSafe. If you want to chat about this more, send me an email - CakeSafeRachel@gmail.com. Thanks so much!

Problem is we really only deliver the cakes and leave. Nobody sticks around anymore for their "stuff"????

Hi Chloe! What is your question? I'm not sure I understand. The CakeSafe is a delivery box - you put your cake in the box so it stays perfect and protected on the way to the venue. When you arrive you take the cake out of the CakeSafe box and leave with it. That's the beauty of the CakeSafe. There is no "stuff" left behind. The coast plates and columns that you see in the video are only there so we could give the effect of a real tiered cake, yet see what's happening inside the cake, they have nothing to do with the usage of the CakeSafe. Sorry if it's confusing, that was the best way we could think to imitate a real cake. Watch our other videos to see a real cake in the CakeSafe.

***** Oh so sorry. I will look at it. I thought it was something where the cake sort of needs to stay in it. To collect hardware afterwards is a nightmare. Wow! Honestly have never seen this. Apologies my bad

No worries! Here's a link to a video showing a real cake delivery and how to remove the assembled tiered cake from the CakeSafe box. Then you take the box home and never have to return to the venue. :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ha5jqc2C1tOrnas.html
