Thank you for this! I love the picture you chose with the wreath on the old barn wood. I was so surprised to see you begin with red, yellow, and blue. It all worked out fine though. I would have wanted it darker and more gray. That’s why I’m the amateur. I learn so much! The wreath is beautiful also. We did lose my dear nephew (age 25) to a terrible sarcoma. We are still so sad but understand forever families and we have faith we will be together again one day. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁 🎄

Laurel, I'm working on a project to help families deal with grief. I was happy to see that you'd posted a new video, then when I heard about your brother, I felt like this book might speak to you. It begins like this: "Thelonia Redskirt didn't always want to be a pirate captain." Thelonia is a little girl, an artist, who gets very sick (probably with cancer, though it's never specified). It upends her life, but in the end she comes home again and gets help from a group of pirates she has painted on her ceiling. It's a sweet story - a bit sad, but also comforting and hopeful. The people who have read it tend to be very moved, and I've got a recording of it that I want to make available to grief support websites. I also want to add video. I've got the drawings done, but I'm very apprehensive about painting, because my hands shake. I don't want to ruin the book, or redraw and redraw and redraw because I can't control my brush. I'm such an admirer of your work, and thought I might put this collaboration to you. It's different from what you normally do, in that there aren't photos to work from, but the requirements for a children's book are really much simpler. It's a big project, and I don't know if it will ever make any money. (Maybe someday it'll be a real book, and then we can get paid, lol) But I told God I would give it back to him, because he gave it to me, and the rest is in his hands. Please work with me on this. I'll understand if you're too busy, or not comfortable with the idea, but I'm hoping there's a reason God steered me in your direction this morning. I lost my brother last year to early onset Alzheimer's, and he was the light and joy of our family, too. It's a loss nothing can ever make up for, but maybe we can help other people a little. 💜

I really like how you use your first wash to give character to your paintings. I also wondered whether you use your first wash to signal cold and warm temperature on your paper. For the inexperienced me, it would make sense. On the same time I understand and appreciate the sense of giving visual variety that pops up here and there under your 2nd and 3rd washes. If I remember you are using Manganese Blue Hue from Daniel Smith or am I wrong? All the best from a modern Greek! P.S This is my 1st comment under a KZfaq.

Question: I see you wash your brush, then dab on damp cloth but what is it that you do before you go to the palette of paint? Is that another cup of water? Love your technique. I have a bad habit of using one color and miss the variations of color possible to create an interesting painting. Thanks for sharing.
