In the previous version on iPhone, motorways cost an amount of road tiles equal to their length. The fact that they no longer cost road tiles is a huge change and a welcome one. Steam users will never know the struggle of “motorway cannot be that long”.

Btw, you don’t need to connect every house to your roadway like you did with shapes in mini metro. If there are houses that are way out of the way that will only cause traffic you can just leave them unconnected to maximize roadway efficiency.

This actually seems way more polished than mini metros.

One important hint: If you can build diagonals, do it, it's more road efficient

I feel like putting the ends of highways on intersections contributes to congestion a lot. You go from 4 roads to an intersection to 5.

Roundabouts are really good. You can connect roads to them diagonally too, so you can have an 8-way intersection that’s still more efficient than a normal 4-way one. Saves a lot of merging streets together.

One tip is to avoid 4-way intersections including with houses as cars will come to a stop at these, lengthening the time it takes for a car to reach its destination. Is is also faster for a car to leave its house at an angle towards its destination than a house making a T intersection

I would love to see Tyler play cities skylines. Lots of strategy in that game

I feel like traffic lights might be usefull in certain situation. Ex. You could use it as a kind of switch between 2 neighborhoods of different colors. You'd have a couple blue cars, then a couple red cars all going to the same place. In a more chaotic scenarios, you'd be just better with roundabouts or simple intersection

Can you have some kind of indicator to alert us to the specific area you're talking about when you say "this one"? It's hard to see where your mouse is. Maybe a big cursor? In some OS's you can shake the mouse a bunch to make the cursor larger.

Ive really got to be honest, Aliensrock is one of the only KZfaqrs that seems both professional and really new at the same time, I'm not sure how, but he just is.

Just finished the video, and holy crap! I could see this being big! I really really enjoyed this video. Watching you optimize something is very satisfying, as you see lots of optimizations I didn't notice, and I, as a viewer, can see things that I would have done differently. It provides an interesting gameplay-commentary-viewer experience that feels very connected and involved on my end, as I try to find optimizations before you. It feels like watching an older sibling play a game, and they see things you don't, and you see things they don't. Ben did a great job on the editing, as usual, and you, Tyler, did a great job playing, and commentating. This game feels perfect for streaming, due to that older sibling type deal. I feel like there could be a high level strat where you never keep any roads banked. You could deploy all your roads in certain places to try and control the spawn locations of new buildings

Ok I might be wrong but the traffic lights do slow down the roads but if you put them at a intersection that is congested it actually slightly speeds it up

Trust me: having an interconnected road network makes the game a lot easier than making separate networks for different colors.

Traffic lights are super good, but super hard to use. Every piece has their quirks, it just depends where you put them. Having 2 on hand is super handy, especially for busy crossroads. Your light was poorly placed, like a blunder, but on your layout deleting it was smart. I enjoyed the video c:

12:23 Instead of connecting the highway to the intersection, it'd probably be better to hook it onto the roundabout right below it, instead of the road coming from the left. Should help keep the traffic flowing better.

You can also put roads around the entrance to the workplaces to prevent more from spawning right next to each other

You can put little diagonal road dashes (not attached to anything) in open areas to keep thing from spawning in places you don't want

so tyler, a tip from someone who played this a lot on apple arcade before a lot of the QoL stuff was added (roundabouts, motorways not using roads, 10 roads per week, etc.), grids are your friend the more squares, the easier it is to use traffic lights to manage traffic since they do follow stopping rules. where they stop before turning if they see another car coming (also squares tend to just be optimal for traffic)

this was the best game on apple arcade. i remember there was a strategy where you strategically place roads in order to block bad spawning positons.

Something to note: the Cyan motorway at 17:30 also has the problem that, due to the extreme angles, vehicles have to stop to make those turns,

Small tip from a bad player: I find that creating neighborhoods help ease traffic, a bunch of driveways on critical roads slows traffic down, even when cars are not coming and going. Even if it costs more roads, having neighborhoods with one intersection to access the main road is better than a bunch of single-point connections.

i feel like this game, in changing how you delete paths, really changes the gameplay in mini metro, you can easily delete every metro line at once so it's really easy to redo everything and make it all better but here, by making it so that you can only delete one road at a time, it forces you to be more additive than subtractive (but the road limit adds a good road optimization incentive)
