In this video I discuss how I use negative gamma, positive gamma or a lack of gamma to determine what the daily range will be how and how price will likely move within that range.

Thank you so much for these videos! As a hack technical trader heretofore, I knew about Levels and patterns….but these videos tell me WHY a move happens. I never knew about Gamma and Vanna until I found your channel. Please refer me to the intro to Vanna and GEX and please keep the content up! Hopefully a Market Maker doesn’t pay you to take them down. Thanks so much.

The excellent video explains how Vanna impacts "dealer" buying behavior. From what I understood, you are getting the night before, and you update your charts with the lines accordingly, noting areas of high Vanna impact and no Vanna impact. The No GEX lines are somewhat like "Volume Imbalances" in ICT methodology or on the Volume Profile there are nodes where not many transactions occurred and thus price moves through that area relatively quickly? Conversely, with high gamma activity would that mean a faster movement of price action?
@FattyTrades
@FattyTrades 11 ай бұрын
That's correct, but i do like to note the biggest GEX levels as well. A quick shortcut would be to think of it like this. Positive Vanna increases volatility and leads to faster moves through a specific region as well as drawing price. Negative Gamma does the same. So areas we lots of negative vanna and positive gamma will be more difficult for price to get through often times leading to choppiness or those "high resistance" price moves. When you pair ICT concepts where you have large daily fair value gaps on the daily/weekly charts in areas with lots of positive vanna and negative gamma, you'll see those fast price moves drawing to the liquidity targets very quickly. Hopefully that makes sense, I'll be digging into this a lot more very soon!

@@FattyTrades But doesn’t the Gamma levels change throughout the day? Is the one from the previous night even accurate by the middle of the next day?

@FattyTrades
@FattyTrades Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure actually, if you check the price action on the top gold ETFs and it’s the same as gold futures then you could likely use the dealer data for that asset as reference like we do with SPX & SPY for ES

Is Gama in this context a comparison of the open interest total and put vs call of different strikes compared to other strikes and how that impacts market makers (and therefore resistance); rather than the typical options gama measuring the move for each dollar of the underlying?

Great content on GEX. Thanks for the insight. I learned Something new today on "No GEX" and marking GEX on charts. I am using a python prog to chart GEX for daily or weekly. I will review it for No GEX levels to see top and bottom on SPY. Also, If I see +ve and -ve GEX on a single day, is the top identified by the longest bar in +ve GEX and bottom identified by longest bar in -ve GEX? If so, what does No GEX level indicate? For SPY (close 523) 4/1, +ve GEX is 523 to 530 and -ve GEX is 522 to 512. 519 and 525 have longest bars. The no GEX is between 531-534. So, what is the range based on GEX? Is this what you are seeing for 4/1? Is there a way I can share this for a few days to get confirmation on these levels?

On regular stocks (other than the SPY/SPX and VIX) what reference/source would you recommend to determine if the volatility is increasing and decreasing as you are moving through the strikes.
@FattyTrades
@FattyTrades Жыл бұрын
One way to do that is to check IV on the biggest vanna strikes through your broker. Most brokers show IV on contracts in the options chain real time or close to real time. If you have Vol.land, on their summary requirements page they have a VIX-like calculation you can reference as well which is helpful. Another, less accurate way, is to simply always assume if price is moving up, IV is moving down and if price is moving down, IV is moving up. This is true for the most part, with the big exception being before a major event such as earnings where IV will rise leading up and rapidly drop after it passes. In those cases I like to look for the largest positive vanna strikes near & above price without negative vanna negating it to see where the biggest draw would be as IV rapidly drops, if any.

I’ll try to go over it on my Twitter feed tomorrow as a bonus to the SPX/SPY stuff. When I looked earlier at Vanna on TSLA we were sitting right on top of a large positive vanna strike that acted as a magnet with some pretty large negative vanna under spot at $180 which would actually help to stall moves lower as we push into it. It was a quick look and I did not check delta correlations, gamma and charm so I’ll try to get a more thorough post out tomorrow.

Are you using volland more than tradytics these days? I’m trading SPY options daily and take profit too early mostly. I’m thinking I could use these areas of positive gamma as exit targets
@FattyTrades
@FattyTrades Жыл бұрын
I’m still using both. I have some Trady vids planned soon but I use vol.land to view gamma/vanna/charm impact (& their discord is amazing for learning the nuances of Dealer positioning) and Tradytics for flow, DP data and delta/price correlations. Yeah it really helps with that but also that just requires practice. Getting good at scaling in and out & identifying targets based on price action showing areas of liquidity plus Dealer data is immensely helpful. One thing that has helped me is when I enter a position, I use things like gaps and imbalances to add more positions on and don’t slide my stop too fast. If you are playing a reversal for instance & measure the prior swing high to low with fibs, as long as price hasn’t moved approx 50% of the way towards your target, practicing scaling in with small positions instead of exiting as price pulls back (assuming the pullback doesn’t break any rules you have for your strategy) can help you hold longer & will ensure some is left over when your initial target is reached to leave as runners. Also, if you have Tradytics or follow my discord, using the delta/price correlations can allow you to plot the expected range for the day (I recommend plotting based on the pre market open) & usually works with a great degree of accuracy.

I had some issues with the platform since i was a very early adopter, however I still really like what they did. I have been contemplating revisiting them recently because it seems like they've come a long way. There data was always impressive, it was just some of the early bugs that made me back off a bit until they were resolved.
