Take a close look at the Janome HP and HP2 feet with Amy of AmyQuilts.com as she uses each one with the curved piecing of small Drunkard's Path blocks. These feet are a great option for piecing, giving an accurate 1/4 inch without the need to change the needle position. Combined with the left needle position given automatically by using the HP plate, you get a great stitch, even on curves.
This video was originally a live Facebook video for Amy's shop, Sew Simple of Lynchburg www.sewsimpleoflynchburg.com/ It's a Janome dealership, quilt shop, and sewing machine repair and service center in Lynchburg Virginia.
You can order the HP2 foot for your HP plate compatible Janome machine (6700P, 9400, 9450, and 15000) at AmyQuilts.com Direct link: bit.ly/2JJ3Spb

Sure wish this foot would work for my 7700. It's disappointing to save up and spend a good amount of money for a machine, only to have new and improved feet be introduced that won't work on them. Thank you for all the nice and informative videos you share with us Amy.

It's not just a simple addition of a foot though. It's interior workings as well as programming. There are however, several 1/4 inch piecing options, even an acufeed 1/4 option for the 7700.
@dessertsrockc7444
@dessertsrockc7444 5 жыл бұрын
@@AmyQuilts I realize that. I've actually got most, if not all, of the 1/4" piecing options for my 7700.. including the accufeed foot. Sadly they're not as accurate as several layers of duct tape aligned at the 1/4" spot by the feed dogs.

DessertsRock C, I haven't had very good luck with any of the quarter inch seam piecing options on my Horizon 7700 either. I also have the quarter inch accufeed foot. I got so frustrated; and thought it was just me. But I've seen several people have the same issue.
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 5 жыл бұрын
Jacee K have you done the strip test and adjustment of your needle drop? When I use the regular quarter inch feet, once I move the needle to the right needle position for me, I get great results. The default setting is too far to the left for me and most others. I groped about it to my sewing machine tech (my husband) and he pointed out that I was moving it only six tenths of a millimeter.
@jaceek2030
@jaceek2030 5 жыл бұрын
@@AmyQuilts I honestly think I've tried everything..including buying quarter inch feet that aren't just specifically for my Janome. My sewing machine tech (also my amazing hubby☺️) has also brainstormed along with me. When I move the needle, then both feed dogs aren't fully in contact with my fabric like they would be when the needle is in the central position (hope I'm explaining this right); so then the fabric wants to go askew. I also have a rough time with "fabric chewing", even with the needle plate engaged in straight stitch only position..so I start each time with a scrap fabric. As much as I love my 7700, the quarter inch piecing has been a let down for me. Honestly if my Juki HZL-400 had the larger harp, it'd be my go to 1st machine. Thanks for replying to me and trying to help.

I got this for my Skyline S5 without realizing it was not made for my machine. That said, the foot attaches and sews just fine. If I move my needle all the way to the left, can I use this for piecing with a 1/4" seam?

It's not recommended for your machine. You could try it, but use extreme caution as you don't want to hit the needle on the foot.

Amy, we own a 15000 QuiltyMaker and the 9450. When is Janome going to update the 15000 so it displays the HP2 foot an allows activation of the AccuFlex icon on the machine like the 9450. Currently the dual feed adjustment doesn't function for the HP2 foot on 15000.
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 5 жыл бұрын
Roy Zeigler I do not know that they will. The acufeed icon does not have to be selected in order to engage the Acufeed. The icon button merely changes the stitches to the ones that work the best with the Acufeed. Since these are the same stitches that are shown when the HP plate is on, it's a bit redundant.
@royzeigler6473
@royzeigler6473 5 жыл бұрын
@@AmyQuilts I agree however the "Dual feed Adjustment Dial" on the side of the 15000 doesn't function without AccuFlex activated via the screen icon, hence the problem using the HP2 with the 15000 verses the 9450. Thanks for the prompt response.

When I tried to put it on my 6700P. The needle hit the foot and jammed the machine. How do you put it on correctly?
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 9 ай бұрын
You have to put the plate on to get the needle to the correct 0.0 position, if that's not it, time to put on your detective hat. Is the needle bent (or was it?), does then needle sit in the center of the needle hole? Sometimes it gets out of position and needs to be reset. Is the foot plate on the holder all of the way? Test by moving the handwheel by hand.

@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 5 жыл бұрын
Nope. But if you haven't checked out the narrow (single) Acufeed foot for the 8200, you might want to check it out for stitching on curves though it's not a 1/4 inch foot. It's one that I showed briefly in the video. There's also the 1/4 inch acufeed foot for the 8200.

With the HP and HP2 foot, you use the HP plate. The plate tells the machine which stitches to show for these feet, so there's no need to press the Acufeed icon.

Good morning, is this foot a true 1/4” foot. The reason I am asking is because I am trying to make with a pattern I bought and the block is not measuring up to what the pattern is saying it should be. I am measuring an remeasuring and my ruler is telling me the sea is a true quarter inch.
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 5 жыл бұрын
Sherry Seitz it really depends on how accurately you feed the fabric, and pressing matters too. I've been getting rave reviews on it from quilters. But....i prefer having a guide. If your seam allowance measures 1/4" before pressing, your block will likely be too small after pressing, as the hump formed from pressing to the side takes up fabric. You can press open to not lose that bit, or You can press open and then to the side. This is why you hear about having a scant 1/4 inch, which allows for better accuracy after pressing. Test your 1/4" by sewing three 1-1/2 inch strips side by side, press to the side and measure the center strip. If it's 1 inch, you're golden. If not, you'll need to adjust.
