Interesting tutorial for C4FM YSF and NXDN. I have currently have DMR and P25 into a Pi 3B with a duplex MMDVM hat running half-duplex on each transceiver -- allows both Slot A and Slot B on DMR. However, I've found trying to use DMR and P25 simultaneously does not work well. I disconnect the mode I'm using with the "Disconnect" talk group before switching modes. Much cleaner. I will be adding an FT 70D for NXDN trans-mode operation. If it works well I'll quit looking for a dedicated NXDN radio - those I've found are exorbitantly expensive and provide enormous challenges to find programming cables and software to reprogram them for amateur use. Getting P25 working with a government surplus 2006 era Series 6 EF Johnson 5100 ES using the 380-470 MHz R1 band split was drinking from a fire hydrant. Still working with the nuances of its configuration software which was designed for government agency communications systems techs. Looking forward to getting NXDN going.

HI, i'm IU8MLV and I have a problem with my FT70DE. I can't transit to MMDVM HOTSPOT. In reception, however, I receive. With my FTM 400, however, I have no problem receiving and transmitting. I set the radio to Simplex mode, then DN mode without AMS, then set WideFM, then set Half Dev to disabled mode, and channel bandwidth to 12.5Khz. But I can not in any way transit on the Hotspot. I dare not imagine when I will have to configure the other FT3DE radio: on various forums I have read that the FT70DE and also FT1 and FT3 create many of these problems. Could you tell me how to solve the problem? Thank you very much

Excellent video! Thank you so much..... so here is where I am with my new Zumspot and a question; I have my Zumspot pi-star computer setup, connected to the internet, my Yaesu FT-70D programmed on channel 1 just like you do on the designated simplex frequency I have chosen. Everything seems to be working great, but my question is say I want to get 10-20 “rooms” programmed into my radio, how do I do that? I purchased the RTS radio program for this radio, but it does not show or seem able to list these 10-20 “rooms” a place where they can be entered to check on activity in that room. As I see, if I want to go to a different room, I have to log into the pi star program and go into the configuration page and change what YSF room it will take me to when I start it up. Is that the only way to go to different rooms? Name is Mark Glasson W5HSJ. Love the videos!

Don't thi k you can program channels like you do with DMR. Pick a ysf room that bridges to Wires-X on your Pi-Star. Then use the F key and the Wires command to enter the room number of the room you want. There are lists on the Pi-Star site and the Yaesu site. Your FT70D can store up to 5 in the memories in the Wires function for quick access. You can also just key in the room number on the enter screen. It's not 10 to 20 but better than just 1.

I have a question I already have a pi-star hotspot in a package with my DMR radio and want to run fusion as well what do I need to do to set YSF running and be able to use the wiresx function on the FT3D that I am looking at getting and do I need to set up a default room to connect to I do not run the DMR part connected to any talk groups and I would like to do the same with YSF any info you provide will be greatly appreciated thanks and 73 Ed. @GadgetTalk4U 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a FT3D so I can't speak to that. If you're hot spot is a Pi Star based hotspot, you can run both DMR and YSF at the same time. I found that not particularly good in that the DMR talkgroup I linked as the default was so busy the hotspot was essentially always on DMR. Since they are cheap, I got a second Pi Star hotspot for YSF. You could also use a dead DMR talkgroup and use both modes on a single Pi Star. I use a default room that is labelled as a bridge to Wires-X and use the Wires-X access as described in the instructions. Again, I don't know how the FT3D accesses Wires-X. I'm using FCS00290.

@@GadgetTalk4U well that’s cool I don’t have a talk group permanently linked and if I do it’s not a busy one so if I can do the same for YSF that will be beneficial to me and yes my hotspot is running pi-star I just need to know what the settings are that I need soI can get the rooms list from the radio without having to go to my computer each time I want to change rooms or just disconnect each time I shut down the handheld or take it with me when I leave home

Do you use the hot spot with cell phone to get on the internet? Or do you go through a repeater that is connected to the internet?

I Have a yaesu 991-a I live in a western maryland no where near a repeater for c4fusion I want to be able to get on wiresx Will this work for me
@GadgetTalk4U
@GadgetTalk4U 2 жыл бұрын
If you have internet access, the short answer is yes. Your question asked about two different systems, fusion and wires X. I don't know if the 991a does wires X. It does fusion though so you'd be good to go with that. Hot spots vary tremendously in price I use inexpensive ones. Others cost a bunch more but get good reports. Do some research to find the one that works best for you. There are good pi star tutorials on KZfaq.

I got one from this vendor. They are all pretty much the same. Find a goid price and shipping timeframe that works for you. Be sure to get one that is complete. That is, MMDVM modem hat, pi zero board, case, antenna and sd card with the pi star image. www.ebay.com/itm/MMDVM-Hotspot-Support-P25-DMR-YSF-Raspberry-Pi-OLED-Antenna-Case-16G-Card-/312861126705?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

The FT 70D will do WiresX. Things get a bit complicated using a pi-Star based jumbo spot as the codex changes. Google it. It's too much to go into here and I'm not an expert. Cheers.

@@GadgetTalk4U What about ANALOG Wires X? It seems everything is always grouped with Fusion but my old VX-8DR is only Wires X with no Fusion. Totally analog.

Sorry. Do a little more research. Lots of folks replace the PC with their phone as a wifi hot spot - especially road warriors. The PC is only an access point to the internet. Smartphone works just as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the reference about having two different hotspots. I am very new to this and thought that was possible. You validated my thoughts. Not completely sure yet on how to do that but will continue research. Plan BridgeComm for DMR (already set up) and new ZumSpot for Fusion. KD9SEZ
@GadgetTalk4U

Good luck on your research. I found that while the Zumspot with the PiStar software can run each mode simultaneously, it was hard to change modes on busy talkgroups as the PiStar hotspot wouldn't release the mode while receiving. Multiple hotspots allows me to have a couple of radios on at the same time in different modes - DMR, C4FM and DSTAR. 73.
