Mr Nick, I am so glad you got a good grasp on the benefits and are taking advantage of them! Sock away as much as you can with TSP and you will be golden when you retire. You may not be thinking about promotion just yet but it will make your benefits even better. My advice to any new USPS is work dependably, honestly and safely and you will have a good and secure future. My wife doesn't work for the USPS and earns more than I do but she considers me to have the "anchor" job that provides excellent health care that is much better and costs far less than her employer. So she just wants me to stay just where I am for as long as I can.

Glad to hear you're happy with the benefits. I've mentioned before I'm in Illinois as well and currently have BCBS and Delta with my current job. Hopefully I can make it through this first couple years fine and I'll enjoy the PTF when I get there. I have a nine month old so it will go by quick lol.

Nick, I’m very glad for you in your post office career, it’s ashame they give you a crash course in basically a week and say your on your own, I want someone to explain how does this benefit the new employee and post office in general. Nick as you no cca, are rarely on the same routes, and in different towns, lol, how can you delivery something so important as mail when you can’t even get used to casing mail you. It’s. It’s a good job, but it’s not trending well when the post office has a big turn over rate, look yes a good job, but casing mail of addresses you have no clue and parking at streets with loops. You explain to everyone why they feed you to the dogs, they could do a better job , alot of good people quit because of there hurry hurry attitude, sure you make mistakes but they could approach things differently, thanks explain what you can, cca is very very difficult when your all over

Benefits are nice, the best you can get! Pension has went downhill and they keep raising the union dues. Quite possibly 5 to 6k of your own pay going to retirees per year. Who knows if that pension will ever see current employees hands in 20 years.

Funny how they gave the name PTF (Part time flexible) for job title but they work you like crazy more than regular carrier. Also the previous job title CCA (City Carrier Assistant) but make you carry solo after 3-4 days training and expected you carry mail like a veteran carrier. LOL. Don't be discourage if you're a New CCA or PTF. Try it if you like it, there's great benefits to being a letter carrier. Just have a don't quit/give up mindset and y'all be fine.

Yo nick how’s it going I have a question for you when you took your 2nd break in service when did you get your hours back from the annual leave?

I have 2 opportunities for PTF. One is in my town, the state capital about 50k people and the other in our largest city about 150k people. I’d rather pick the one in my town but the PM said his PTF’s don’t get a ton of hours. He didn’t elaborate so I have no idea if that means they don’t even get 40 a week! Lol. I’m taking about a $10 an hour paycut so I’ll need to work probably 50+ a week. I thought there were plenty of hours available, what you think?

hey nick, I just got converted from CCA to PTF. I'm self only so, what u choose fits me too. I was able to select Blue Crosse blue shield basic on Lightblue. Choosing dental and vision coverage wasn't an option. can I enroll on light blue or do I have to call HR to enroll for dental and vision? Any tip will help

28 year veteran here. The Delta Dental is actually very, very good. If you're a Veteran, BUY BACK YOUR SERVICE TIME!!!! I didn't, had 8 1/2 years active duty, and now it's almost cost prohibitive to buy it back. Your friend did a fantastic job helping you with your insurance. Back when I got hired, it took me SIX years to make regular!!!! It sucked bad! Yea, a PTF bidding on easy routes was the only good thing about being a PTF. I always said the WORST route as a regular is better than the BEST route as a PTF.

What vacation days does CCA/PTF get if any?

I just made regular a few months ago. Was a cca for 14 months. I have no idea what a ptf is. When I got converted I became a uar (unassigned regular) . We have no ptfs if our huge office but we have a few unassigned regulars. Just wondering what a ptf is and what’s the difference

Please don't forget about life insurance. It is the best because everyone gets basic and you can you opt for ×1-5 times your salary if God forbid sometimes happens. I have times 3 so if I were to pass away my beneficiary would basic and ×3 which is $75,000 ×4= $300,000. Very cheap and no physical required. I know you and I are healthy but it is always good to have just in case for your family.
