Michael Anthony, the bass player, is hitting those high, harmonizing notes. He gave VH that vocal fullness.

I always think that this song would have been a hit in almost any decade. It's just a classic, well-written pop song.

You have to love when a kick-ass rock band says "we need a number to get the ladies up and boppin"' They know how to play to a whole crowd, not just the guitar nerds. That's why they were such a great party band.

I love Dave's singing. His little screams and all. He doesn't get enough love.

I always loved the tropical feel to Eddie's harmonic melody in the bridge here....with this song on the radio it was summer time all year long.

This album was one of those in the late '70's that changed everything. Other guitarist had to step up their game...again!

Fantastic. My favorite VH song -- just such a vibe! The harmonies, Dave going off, Eddie's unmistakeable sound, great drumming as always -- party music for sure, you nailed it!

In the beginning, Eddie had the drum kit and Alex had the guitar, and one day, they switched instruments! EVH has always had a syncopation in his rythym and lead playing. Born rock stars...EVH also was a winner several times in the city wide (LA) piano playing competion as a kid. His Dad was a working musician, and their Indonesion mom sent them to piano lessons!

This was the album/song that grabbed me as a kid in the late 70s and made me get into Van Halen.
@kdm7129111 ай бұрын
This is probably their most mainstream release during the DLR era…after Jump (but 5 years before Jump)….a good, fun song that most people enjoy. I like the subtle difference that Alex makes during the musical bridge/breakdown as he hits that tuned set of cowbells….it’s a really nice touch.

This song is the essence of summer - chokes me up when I hear it, because it takes you right back to your youth. I'm originally from Ohio, and in 1981/82 when I was in jr high all my girlfriends listened to these bands (Van Halen, Journey, REO Speedwagon, AC/DC) . They knew every band member by name and which ones they wanted to marry. I liked the music but was always seeking out other pop music from Europe.etc. If you grew up in the midwest in the 70s and 80s these bands were everywhere - like oxygen. Maybe in that moment I didn't appreciate them enough because I wanted to hear things you couldn't hear where I lived. Doesn't mean they aren't a truly great band. We were so lucky that this music was the soundtrack of our childhoods. I really love this song - sounds corny but it's magical. If I had a time machine - what I wouldn't give to visit those times again - even for a few hours.

Eddie is an under rated rhythm guitarist, because the solos get so much attention. But most bands trying to copy these guys, had two guitarists, not just one.

Great original Van Halen song. I personally think that David Lee Roth was a superb front man for that particular time. I would be lying if I told you that he made Van Halen better musically. When Sammy Hagar joined the band I thought they were leaps and bounds better musically. I love both versions of the band but Hagar took them to another level ❤

VH2 doesn't get enough attention. 2 of my favs are "light up the sky" and "outta love again"
@danarchuleta115411 ай бұрын
Although not purposely, according to King Edward, this tune was VH's foray into a more pop style composition. I'm pretty sure that "Go Your Own Way" from Fleetwood Mac was the musical inspiration for this tune (the idea for the song was an X-rated event!). Eddie had a fantastic ear for catchy melodies and another hit, Hall and Oates' "Kiss On My List," (one of my guilty pleasures), was the musical inspiration for "Jump," Van Halen's biggest hit. As a rocker/guitarist, I prefer songs like "Beautiful Girls," "Bottoms Up," and "Light up the Sky" on VH II. More Van Halen, fellas! 🔥🔥

what a lot of people don't understand its rhythm play that separates guitarists Guys like Eddie, Page, and Hendrix were great rhythm players in addition to being able to do cool solo stuff.... and they were great songwriters and producers. The guys who can wank off fast on the fretboard aren't artists compared to these guyss
