Their entire catalog has that edge! Obviously not EVERY song but the majority of it will stand the test of time for the most part. INCLUDING the Hagar era which I know you don't like. Maybe I'm wrong and if so I apologize. But believe it or not the Hagar era was superior all the way around. They grew up! The music was more sophisticated and intricate The Roth era was fun and raw and can't be duplicated either. Roth was an outstanding frontman who unfortunately got too big for his own good and basically kicked himself out of the band. Edward was done with cover tunes and David wasn't! Who did we think was gonna win that one? I'll give David this though, when they got back together and did those two songs on their greatest hits volume one in You Can't Get This Stuff No More and We Wise Magic it was like he never left! I thought he sounded great and I love those songs

That's David Lee Roth screeching. He had the perfect voice for the music. This is my favorite VH album. There are so many songs to do on this one. We used to put the speakers on the window sills and blast it on ten while we hung out at the schoolyard across the street, rocking to 'DOA' and 'Beautiful Girls.' Everything changed when they came out in '78.

@patches6309
@patches6309 2 жыл бұрын
The technique DLR is using is called a "whistle register" and he perfected it and uses it in a few of the VH hits. Many called it a "falsetto" but it is not, what you do is let the muscles in your larynx relax and the upper chest do the work of "reaching". It's very easy and doesn't use much air either unless you force it very loudly. You're "hiding" your chest voice by relaxing it and ring then you "ring the whistle" which feels like it's shelved on top of your chest voice. But it is very hard to master and few lead singers use it much hence it really does sound unique!

David Lee Roth's voice was analyzed; I think at a University sound studio somewhere, I don't remember which University, but it was discovered that when he does the scream he utilizes more than one set of vocal chords. There are a handful of people on the planet that can do that and hit the intended note. It's a very, very rare ability.

Van Halen at their best. David Lee Roth is doing that quick little high pitched scream. I got to tell you, as great as Eddie Van Halen was as a lead guitar soloist, he was just as good if not even a hair better as a rhythm guitarist. What he created & what he is doing with basically 4 chords on this song is incredibly original. David did the scream - the bassist Michael Anthony did background vocals / harmonies on many VH songs.

David Lee Roth is the only lead vocalist and the squeals you here at the end of some words are coming from him, no one else is editing in a scream at the end of a sentence or word for David Lee Roth.

That is singer David Lee Roth is the guy doing the high pitch scream. Said he liked to do that as a kid, and then he added it to his songs.

No, this is David Lee Roth doing the high-pitched screams. That was kind of his trademark. ❤️
