Diamond Dave was one of the best rock frontmen. He didn't have the greatest voice, especially in concert, but he was THE ultimate showman. You should check out his videos when he went solo, they were so funny.

Your High, Daves a phenomenal Singer, he wrote all the vocals , melodies, lyrics... without Dave, Van Halen would have never made it... listen to the records again, incredible singer, that sold 56 million records with Van Halen...He didn't have the greatest voice...Right...you must be tone deaf...

@@MrMustard2U Trust me, I'm not high, I'm going by what I heard in concert. I never questioned any of Dave's contributions to the band or Van Halen's accomplishments, they were one of the greatest bands of all time and one of my favorites. On the albums, Dave's voice is more polished and by the way, he isn't the only singer who doesn't sound as good in concert.

@fredwerza3478 I don't recall anyone saying he couldn't sing. I specifically said he didn't have a great voice and after seeing him in concert I stand behind that. He was a showman and did everything you want from a frontman. If you take a poll and ask for the best voices in rock, it's doubtful Dave is anywhere near the top singers.

Totally enjoyed this reaction. A treat to share this along with you. Your enthusiasm was infectious. Eddie will go down in history as one of the most influential electric guitarists ever. Van Halen honed their craft performing hundreds of concerts almost anywhere and everywhere and Eddie wore that ever so charming smile to every one of them. They had the knack to write songs that just stuck in your head with great hooks, great playing and underrated but super harmonies which were uniquely theirs alone. There are far worse rabbit holes to journey down than VanHalen.

I was a junior in high school when I saw this Van Halen concert in austin, tx thanks to my sister who was a student at the University of Texas. She bought me two tickets which were going for $25 a piece. Times have changed. They weren't front row but I didn't need binoculars. I took my cousin who was starting med school. Great show. I bought a tour shirt which had the unfortunate image of a baby with a pack of cigarettes. Never start smoking. It doesn't end well.

Great reaction. Here's what made VH different.... the Van Halen brothers were raised with a classical music background. Eddie was later influenced by rock guitarists like Eric Clapton. David Lee Roth grew up influenced by vaudeville performers and then R&B music. Van Halen music is a weird but magical combination of all those influences.

True comment from a producer of Van Halen: "one day, after Eddie had been in the studio for 7 hours recording tracks, an assistant came up to him & told him "a hit & run driver smashed your car out on the street" this was the same day he burned himself on his stove at home & had to wear a bandage for a week, and he found out that one of his financial advisors was stealing from him only the day before. Eddie STILL had a smile on his face. He smiled whenever he had his guitar in his arms, a cold brew or hot coffee nearby; no matter what else had occurred. He was a happy man who knew he was blessed. He never spoke a negative nor hateful comment about anybody, not even David Lee Roth after Van Halen & Roth split up. Eddie was a talent the likes of which had never existed, and we will never see in our lifetimes again. God Bless EVH..........he's up there rocking with the best of the best...............playing LEAD...........and SMILING non-stop! Someday, I hope to pass by him, shake his hand, and tell him Thank You for the memories! I bet he will be smiling!

When it comes to rock music, the ENTIRE decade of the 1980s was predicated on Van Halen's legendary debut album in 1978. The sound, the look, the energy. They were as influential as a few of those classic British bands like the Beatles and Zep. And yeah, they DID make rock music a potential gold mine that lasted for a decade.

You must watch Van Halen,"Live Without a Net". It is Eddie playing all of his famous guitar solos. AMAZING!! You will be impressed. This showcases how much of genius Eddie was and how he was able to make the guitar seem like different instruments. Please please please, watch this video. Love your reactions!!

Great reaction. Such a fun song. Very popular school bus song in the 1980s. It got us soooo hyped up. Bus drivers hated it.

Eddie Van Halen (lead guitar/keyboardist) and his brother Alex (drums) were born into a musical family and were both classically-trained musicians. Eddie and DLR had a love-hate relationship over the years, eventually Diamond Dave was replaced with Sammy Hagar who, although great in his own right, lacked the over-the-top energy of Roth. BTW, if you want to see what Eddie was capable of as a musician, check out his "Eruption" guitar solo on KZfaq, which would also be worth a reaction vid if you like. Another popular VH song to check out, if you haven't already, is "Panama"

Michael Anthony, the bass player, has a fantastic voice with great range. You just never see it in most of their songs.

The bassist was rally crucial with the backup harmonies. Eddie also did the solo to Michael Jackson’s Beat It

Love this reaction! I really had fun watching you enjoy Van Halen, I remember being just as giddy when I first heard their music. Diamond Dave is easily one of the best front men of all time. ❤

I can't remember if it was solo or with the band, but David does a fun song called 'Just a gigolo. The guitar solo is Eddie Van Halen. Technically his band. '

Funny that you would say how good the chemistry was considering how bad the breakup was between Eddie and David Lee.
