Van Staal Vr-50 - 2 year Reflection

2 жыл бұрынIn this video, I will be discussing the van staal vr-50 regarding my experiences and perspective after 2 years of field testing. Contrary to popular belief, the vr series is sealed but not fully sealed when compared to the vsx series. All in all, it is an excellent reel for back bay applications since i have moved fish in the 15-20 lb class on it. Love my 50. Have it on a custom 8 lami 3/4-3. I walk beach throwing bucktails / gulp down n surf for fluke. Absolutely a splendid setup for myself.

That’s a great setup for both the open beach and back bays, could even get away with catching stripers on that too 💯

It’s definitely preference for sure….I totally have been enjoying my VS 150 for five years now…..Fish on

Recently got the new VR75 and I’m very happy with it so far. Pairing with 7’ to 8,6” rods at time a lighter 9’ rod without any issues. Vr50-75 share the same body just has more line capacity. Would 100% recommend the Vr to anyone considering it

The vr 75 looks like a sweet reel as well …. They are both excellent reels and I too would recommend them to anyone looking for a back bay application workhorse 💯

Mi vr50 is in a penn battallon II 7 ' I loved.

Thinking about getting a vr 175 for jetty fishing for tarpon and snook. I’ve burned through a few slammers and spinfishers

How many lb test is your braided line?

typically 15-20 lb test for back bay applications and 30-40 lb test for inlets and the surf.

VR is fully sealed dude. I don’t know why you keep repeating it is not in all of your videos. How do you own the reel and not know it?

First off I’m going based on field testing this reel in the harshest of conditions. No holds bar, the vr is much more susceptible to taking on water as opposed to the vsx which takes on little to none. In terms of your claim, just because a reel is “claimed” to be fully sealed does not mean that’s the case at all. The more and more people I talk to have the same viewpoint as I do, yes its water resistant, but by no means is it recommended to turn the handle underwater. Instead of insinuating that I have no idea what I’m talking about, keep in mind I’ve made up my own opinion based on many hours spent out on the water.

@@surfcastingtheisland4914 what is the difference in sealing between the VR Gen2 and the VS(x) models. does it not have the same seals or is it the tolerances are different ?? not doubting just trying to figure out the difference between the reels

I am not sure in terms of the gen 2 vr reels, I only have gen 1 with the exception of my 75 which I haven’t field tested as much as I would like
