Cult actress Vanessa Howard, known for 'Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush' and 'Girly', was originally trained as a singer and musician.
She appeared as a solo singer on several 1960s music shows on British TV, but this recent discovery is the only known recording of her singing a solo vocal to survive from that time.
She sings here 'ThisWasMySpecialDay', a song originally sung by Joan Palethorpe on the 1964 Cliff Richard and the Shadows LP 'Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp'. In the London Palladium stage show Una Stubbs played the Princess to Cliff Richard's Aladdin.
The voices accompanying Vanessa belong to the Princess's courtiers So-shy and Tai-ping, played by Wendy Padbury and Anna Perry.
This TV production of the Aladdin stage show was made by Rediffusion TV and shown on ITV on Christmas Day 1967. The whereabouts of the master video recording of Aladdin is unknown.
