even into Wrath, the barrens continued to be just a hive of the unhinged, and it was incredible.

Barrens chat was totally resurrected in 2019, I can vouch for that. And even in SoD, Barrens Chat is back baby.

The zeppelin from Thunder Bluff to Orgrimmar wasn't added until Cataclysm, meaning if you were a Tauren you were hoofin' it (pun unintended) past those red level mobs hoping you don't die like a mini version of the Wetlands Run.

It was added in WotLK but ye

Yeah, taurens and night elves are the weed-smoking hippies who live out in the middle of no where. Gotta risk death just to get to your allies lol

Was quite upset when I forgot about that when I started SoD lol

On an unrelated note, i love the soundtrack for this zone. Since when i was a kid i had almost no friends, this song really felt like the theme of loneliness and "prove your worth to the world". Since this zone is so big, you can run long stretches without ever seeing anyone. It's just you, alone, trying to survive and improve yourself in a big harsh enviroment. This is why this zone is iconic!

just for accuracy's sake, there is a roaming pack of elites south of Camp Taurajo, a group of five level 24-25 elites, they pat up and around Camp Taurajo, and down all the way to the Dwarven bunker area. The Night Elf in the center would drop a quest starting item. There are also many specially named beasts that drop quest starting items for turn ins. Also the Zeppelin between TB and Org did not exist until WotLK. Really great video though, had fun listening to it while lvling in HC classic =D

No zeppelin from TB to OG in vanilla. You had/have to walk through the southern barrens to get to Crossroads as a Tauren.

Playing this video while questing though the Barrens on my druid on SoD right now! Love this commentary as I'm banging my head against the wall of 2/4 zhevra hooves haha

The Barrens was incredible but the southern part of the zone was a drag.

My dad and I still talk about old barrens chat, continue to make the same jokes and love visiting here especially during SoD stuff. Love your content, keep it up :)

I hated the Cataclysm revamp. The Barrens chat is alive in SoD

I luckily never had issue with the zhevra hooves; it was the plainstrider beaks quest before it that always had me banging my head on the desk. Now taking a walk down memory lane with season of discovery, and having a blast.

It's been so many years since then, but I swear the original gap in launch Wailing Caverns was larger than it is now. Maybe I was a horrible noob, but I recall the gap initially requiring a perfect jump from the edge to reach the other side. I have a vivid memory of logging in to an early vanilla patch which narrowed the gap enough to make it more forgivable as it is now.

I used to joke around with my friends in the Barrens, one of our best jokes was jokingly naming Camp Taurajo to Camp Taco since it was literally just outside of Mulgore

I agree with you about the alliance ones being more fleshed out storyline wise least with humans. It was a multiple region storyline where you learn that the human royalty and government only really gave a shit about Stormwind. The villages and towns outside were struggling to survive and begging for aid but Stormwind essentially gave them all the finger and told them to shove it.

All my WoW nostalgia is alliance side. My Wrath guild went Horde for SoD so I did too. It’s fun to play WoW and not know the optimum quest leveling path. The Barrens though? Not a fan. It’s just too big and the quests are not designed well. Soon as you turn one in, you get another one asking you to go to the exact same spot on the map you just returned from. That’s true of many vanilla wow quests, but it’s more annoying in the Barrens because it is just too big. Great video. I can see why vanilla Horde players remember the Barrens so well.

I don't think you were 'meant to know' about the quests in the skull cave? no quests are mandatory - i don't mean this in a pedantic way, but it's not bad for there to be hidden quests! it makes for a cool secret, and getting to show other players something cool was really neat.

No zep in classic (in tb). And you also dont need to jump, in fact jumping is the only way it can get you. For real, go in, walk over it...

When I got my Alliance warrior to 30, I didn't read the quest text very well, and the idea of going to the Horde zones seemed outlandish (pun unintended) to me, so I went to a little island between Westfall, Elwynn, and Duskwood, thinking that had to be the island because it was the only island in my character's premises.

Apparently the Elwynn>Westfal>Redridge>Duskwood got much more development time according to old WoW dev interviews, and it really shows. Though they took too long and they wouldn't have finished the game at that pace, so they sped thru the rest of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor much quicker.

Funny how humans got most polished zones with highest number of quests but still barrens and darkshore outclass it by good margin in exp/hr.
