Vans RV-10: Performance On an Experimental Budget

The Vans RV-10 is one of the best kit airplanes when factoring utility, range, useful load, and speed. This particular Vans RV-10 was built and is owned by one of the FlyteCo Brewing founders, Eric Serani. This aircraft was a home build kit and the panel is IFR certified for awesome long cross country flights.
The Vans RV-10 is arguably the best performing low wing 4 seater aircraft that you can own on a budget. Think Cirrus SR22 capabilities at a quarter of the price when comparing both acquisition costs as well as ongoing owner/builder experimental maintenance.
This particular RV-10 is fitted with a Lycoming IO-540 260 horsepower engine and will cruise at 200 miles per hour with takeoff climb performance numbers in the 1,500-2,000 fpm range in Colorado. Controls are precise and provide great feedback to the pilot who will have a smile on his/her face for the entire flight!

Even if you go garmin you shoul be able to keep it under $150k. But as with anything you can go wild.

Truly depends on engine and avionics. Vans has a deal with Lycoming to sell non-certified engines, and that’ll set you back anywhere between $35k-60k

@@samtaylor1669 It's $200,000 now. $150k is realistic for an experienced builder with inexpensive equipment and the base build. But after putting anti-icing (thermX system), dual alternator, IFR certified avionics, the extra handles, maybe a ballistic parachute, ADS-B in, electric servos for rudder, 2 axis autopilot, visors fairings seat covers center consoles etc, you're looking at $200,000, to $250,000.
