A Video showing various stock ascending and descending the helix
Note how 37511 with its tank ballast weight removed (to allow for speaker placement)manages to climb the helix with 14 BAA and 16 MEA in tow (just a test not prototypical of course)but the 56 slips with only 9 Tilcon JGA.
After investigations it seems the JGAs are not particularly free running. In fact they wont descend the helix under their own inertia if left to do so individually!! So some wagon maintenence is neccessaary.
There also seems to be a steep spot in the helix at about 2 'O' Clock as you look at it square on. It is made aparant by locos slipping to a vaying degree when under a large load. So some rejigging of the threaded rods may be in order.
