It is hard to imagine that they are so excited about about selling around 1000 rubel worth, from my understanding around 10e worth. I mean of course cost of living is lower there, but it's most certainly difficult to get my head around it. And for selling that, these people don't want to miscalculate one tiny bit and accidentally rip him off, what honest people. It really warmed my heart to see them so excited and happy. Great job!

To be fair, it is worth admitting that this concept is purely human. In the wild, it is most likely absent. Only society and the person himself in society determine what is fair and what is not. It is so sad how pensioners are struggling all over the world. They struggle themselves and they are still working hard to help the younger generations. That was so sweet of of you. Those ladies probably think that an Angel visited them. I wish you have told them what you are doing. It would make them feel even better to know that their wonderful goodies are going to some needy children in the orphanage. When I visited Trinidad and Tobago I saw a lot of poverty. I saw stands with fresh coconut water. I felt bad when I visited the first one, I saw the other men (from other coconut stands looking at me), so I visited all of them and paid them five times more than they were asking. I have such a good life, great job...it's least I can do. I understand your desire to help people. That is why I enjoy your channel so much. The elderly have such knowledge and skill. I wish that villages could offer facilities and land that would allow the elderly that have skills to be able to share their knowledge with young people. The elderly perhaps could help each other if they organize and communicate. If they organize perhaps doctors, nurses and other Professionals could spare some of their valuable time time to help the poor elderly. Even ordinary people could volunteer a few hours of work toward Community Service. This man needs volunteers in every community to help him address the humanitarian activities that he is bringing to our attention.

In the US it's called social security, we all pay into it and you can start collecting about age 62 depending on circumstances. Ppl who take it early get less than $700 month. Rent costs more than that. It's sad to see that your elderly aren't any better off 😔

The average Russian pension in 2021 was 15,744.6 rubles a month. That’s $194 a month. Russian elders are much worse off. In some villages indoor plumbing might not be available and gas, electricity, food, clothing are all costly. The quality of life is better in some ways (simpler, more rural) but the level of abject poverty is really something many Americans can’t even comprehend. Few Americans would agree to live for long in a Babushka’s small urban flat or primitive village hut.Average American SS payment is around $1,200 to $1,500 a month. Still low but not peanuts.
@grannykiminalaska
@grannykiminalaska 2 жыл бұрын
@@katemorro4828 but prices are, on average here, much higher. In Alaska and Hawaii even worse. It's all relative. No one could live on $1200 a month. Rent , food, medical, electric, natural gas, etc Everyone thinks Americans are rich. That's a joke. I only got indoor plumbing 2 years ago and don't have city electricity yet, it's just too expensive. Rural life in the US isn't much better. We do have more options to beg help but it's still begging. How many of your seniors would travel a half hour on foot to stand outside in an hour line at 10*f to get a food box that would almost feed 2 people for 3 days? I've done that just to keep groceries in the house because the cost of heat took my last penny. It's all relative.

Sergei you're doing a excellent job showing real life in Russia . The main thing I've learned from your videos is that Russians and Americans are not that different . For the most part both just want to be able to provide for the ones they love, have some sort of happiness , and peace . It's a shame governments cause so much conflict and chaos between people who otherwise would probably be friends .

The Russian government needs to take better care of the children & the elderly. The pension given to the elderly is the equivalent of about $95 usd a month. Despicable! These people work all their lives which produces revenue for their corrupt politicians to steal and add to their personal wealth. Here in the US the least a person gets is about $850 (SSI) but there is also a ton of other help for them. Snap benefits for food, government housing which is usually really decent, help with utilities, food banks if their snap benefits aren't enough. For those with Medicare they're even provided with in home help so they don't have to go into nursing homes. Senior centers also offer a daily hot meal for very little or nothing. Even delivered if they're homebound.

I was going home on school bus one day I noticed elderly couple cutting wood for the winter, we did too, that's why I noticed. The following year I noticed the woman cutting the wood herself. I seen her working so hard, that Friday when my bus was passing her house, I got off. I went down and asked if I could help her, she said no but we started talking and she realized I could help not be in the way, I was only 14. That day we made the plans for that weekend to get her wood in for the winter. Please realize there was no chainsaws, just a couple bucks saws and 2 people working hard. We finished 3 cords of wood she needed, cut, split and packed in barn. She wanted to pay me, but I couldn't take her money, I knew my grandmother had little so I assumed she didnt. She agreed to give me some antiques I was curious about. I helped her every fall for the next 3 years til I left home for work. She never offered me anymore money, but loved talking about and teaching me about her antiques, she gave me some for all the work. I still have a few small pieces. I am now 40 years older, I am a part time antique dealer, and my house is full of antiques. All because I offered to help someone with their winters wood. Take care of each other. Peace.

This was lovely, Sergei! I recall pensioners in Moscow in the mid-90’s selling home grown herbs and such on the street after the value of the ruble plummeted. I gladly bought all that I could from babushkas instead of from shops. With their help, I proudly mastered functional “shopping Russian” with a decent accent within a few months of arrival, which was less embarrassing than asking sellers to write prices on paper! ✏️ 📝 🤭 I recall that I “ate my weight” in homemade cucumber pickles, dark rye bread and cold salads with delicious Russian mayonnaise over the course of a year-plus. But, I mostly remember all of the kind people who made or sold them.
