This Vauxhall Vectra C developed a scraping noise when braking. A visual inspection indicated that the rear brake pads were rubbing on the disc so I decided to renew the rear disc rotors and also the brake pads as well. This is a 2003 Vectra C. The same procedure will also be the same on other Vauxhall Opel cars including the diesel versions and the Signum.

Another great video. I had a problem with one of my Vectra, but it was not the pas, discs, but a pipe. But I drove to work a couple of times. got a lot of brake fluid, but I needed to drive to Romania from England. My Garage mate said pop in and can do it in a couple of days. I said it is a brake pipe. so we replaced the harder left side and I did the easier right hand side. Of course he had flaring tools which I did not and a lift. Took 30 mins. brakes sorted. I asked how much. He said cost no labour. £35 more than covers it but you get pipe cheap Nick so some appreciated. My only proper problem apart from that was it had a water leak that went into the boot and we never found out where from. Tried everything. There was a pipe for air that had a hole, and a replacement was £90 from Vauxhall, but was a reason I bought the car cheap as the fault hard to find (not really) and cost £5 to fix

Spot on Martin. I didn't need to touch the rear brakes on my Vectra C which was of a similar vintage to your's. I would agree that it is not absolutely necessary to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir. I thought you would've put a dab of copper grease on the pads where they come into contact with the caliper and caliper carrier. I've got a couple of brake pad videos coming up on my channel (Ford B Max and BMW X1) so it would be interesting to compare notes on our respective methods.

great job martin, it went a lot better than the job i had today, 2 rear wheel bearings on a corsa c , bought a press tool to push them out, bit never had a small enough die in it, so bought another one, the type ya knock out with a hammer, what a nightmare, i even put the bearings in the freezer and the drums in the oven, lol thinking they would just drop in... no chance, still had to knock them in, then one of the new bearings bust, ordered another bearing, will take the drum to a garage to be pressed out properly, no way am i doing that job again, think i will stick with brake jobs.... lol

Not sure what you call the oily film on the rotors but we call it Cosmoline in this part of the world. Keeps metal parts from rusting as they sit in packaging for extended periods. Got to clean it off brake rotors before installing or life could get pretty exciting if it is on the rotor when you first try to stop!

Apparently the green colour can be caused by copper from the brake lines. You probably need to change the fluid. However apparently some high performance brake fluids are green in colour so it could be high performance stuff in there.
