Very this Republic Records literally houses LEGENDS like Taylor, Ariana, Nicki Minaj. They are very well oiled machine when it comes to promotions and rollouts. I think JYP lets them take the reign in their management while JYP is more the artistic/production backing for the group with their MVS, Stylists, and Music

And the girls are going to Lolla Chicago in August! Not so many groups have this oppotunity after just 6 months from their debut. So happy for them. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thought that this song reminds me of STACY. 'Only One' gives very much 'LIT' by STACY. I feel like VCHA having the image of a group of friends coming together to make music that they love could be used to their advantage. It would be great if JYP took inspiration from 2000s and 2010s coming of age teen media with a notable ensemble cast for their concept. Shows and movies like Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Bratz, Winx Club and Lizzy Mcguire movies would fit them perfectly.

Thank you, someone not saying their songs are a Nickelodeon/disney copy. I find it so irritating because majority of kpop gg song are fun, bubbly and cute, the only difference is VCHA is pulling it off in English. And nothing against any other group but if you read the lyrics of some of those songs they are very simply and not much different from the kind of lyrics in VCHA’s songs even those with a heavy hip hop or club beat. So the hypocrisy is jarring and it’s from English speakers, the ones who should be supporting the group. Well I guess you like what you like

It's both Jyp and republic records. Republic records are KNOWN for radio playable music and music played in teen clothes stores. You know, Ariana grande type pop music (I'm not sure if that's her label tho). You get the point. Jyp wants "America and kpop" while RR are more known for making sure the artist is a success and good on the business side of things. I think that's why they have such a good sound, because both companies want Vcha to be the next fifth harmony/little mix of America.

I honestly prefer only one to their pre debut song. I felt that the debut song was too "koreanised" with elements that JYP was only familiar with in kpop, but for only one, It actually has a more American cutesy girly pop sound rather than cutesy kpop sound this time. Even the choreo and visuals work! I think it took some time but it seems that they are actually filling in the "youthful teen pop" gap that many people were doubting about.

I don't think anyone figured out from where it originated but where I personally heard this melody was a Pakistani song called teriyaan by asim azhar ( in the pre chorus) I guess you could say it originated by marina its the oldest song I saw anyone talk about with this melody 💟

1:38 This has been driving me crazy since 2018 with Oh My Girl's Remember Me, it's always reminded me of Viva La Vida by Coldplay. And now hearing the STAYC clip in this video, I realized it all also reminds me of Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds, but I still don't think any of them are direct interpolations of anything. I think it might just be a popular chord progression mixed with the producers using similar instruments and sounds. Anyway, I've also been pleasantly surprised with JYP as a whole this year. They've always been home to my favorite groups, but last year was the first time I was genuinely disappointed with something TWICE released that I couldn't even Stockholm syndrome myself into liking... So imagine my surprise when neither MISAMO nor Jihyo's mini albums clicked with me either. I did come around to their respective title tracks and some of Jihyo's bsides eventually, but I still felt like that Twice magic was missing. Cut to this year and I'm already closing in on 1000 plays on One Spark, something I haven't done since 2020 for a Twice title track, or any song since then for that matter. Same thing with ITZY; I'm a Mafia and Sneakers apologist, but they started to lose me with Cheshire and even though I liked Cake and its pre-releases, it didn't feel like they were truly back until this year's album. I love every single song and it feels like they're completely back in their element, I just wish Lia could've been a part of it. NMIXX is a bit of a different story though, they're the only group that's continuously impressed me the past few years, not just in JYP but in general. Most of these new groups will have a comeback or a short string of comebacks that I really like only to fall off hard and never live up to that same potential again. That being said, I still thought Nmixx would never top their debut, but DASH came dangerously close which blew my mind because I already hold them in such high regard that it's crazy to think they could still somehow exceed expectations. As for VCHA, I agree with everything you've said. At first I wasn't sure if they'd fall into the K-Pop side of the industry fully in regards to release schedules/formats, or be more like NiziU where they follow the standard for Japan's music industry which is similar to ours. Luckily, it seems they chose neither and opted for spitfire single releases thus far, but since they _are_ singles I'm still thinking they'll go with the NiziU release model of putting out a few singles throughout the year and then throwing them all on a full album with its own title track and some new bsides. Only time will tell. Also, some people in the comments are attributing the improvement in management to Republic Records, but I highly doubt that's the case. Again, it seems more like NiziU's situation where JYP just needed an external party (Sony Japan for NiziU) to handle the technicalities of their home industry like release models and distribution while JYP themselves stay in charge of everything actually relating to the group's music and concept.

I don't really count any song before "Girls of the Year" because they were songs from A2K and were pretty much done. Eliminating that, we have 4 actual songs for them. I don't think that is hard to do as many groups that debut usually debut with a mini album of 5 songs or so. They aren't nearly on the schedule as when Day6 debut. 2 songs every month for a year. That was insane lol. But yea as other people mentioned Republic Records is involved too.

I think VCHA is in very good hands with the JYP/Republic Records partnership. I saw one comment that was along the lines of JYPE being on the creative side and Republic on the daily management front, and it makes sense considering their mostly US promotions right now. It seems like they're about to stay on digital singles for a couple more releases, but it does feel like a mini-album (or EP if they're really going for the Western market) is on the way. I'm hoping they release songs that's more in the style of "Ready for the World" because I really think they shine in that concept of self-esteem. Either way, their success really is something that's a welcome surprise for everyone and they truly deserve all the best.

I dont know if people know about JYPE's company structure for their idols. There are 4 different divisions in the company, and each division works with certain idol groups. Division 1 only works for things related to JYP himself, TWICE, and VCHA (Jihyo confirmed this on 썰플리 YT channel) . I dont remember all the other divisions and the groups they cover (i think division 4 is Day6 and Xdinary Heroes which is also basically their subdivision StudioJ). I think thats why VCHA is doing so well because the division knows what theyre doing with the bubblegum pop vibes.

there doing great, but to really resonate w people especially in the american public, is lean into the just a group of friends making music concept. if jyp lets them write their songs (not a self produce group, just songwriting) , and maybe let the members who can play an instrument let them play, they can lean into the band concept. similar to newjeans, they could bring a fresh sound with a electro sound, i would also love them to incorporate pop rock and r&b.

This high pitched melody is commonly used in highschool romance tv series, mostly in the Japanese or Chinese countries, where they convert the ost of the series to high pitch in some scenes where the female lead is having some hearty feelings. Well, I guess thats my opinion, but its the technique to make the scene more relaxing like ur about to melt in what ur seeing. They put it in music to also have the same melting feeling when ur hearing it which we all grew up thats why most of the millenials are able to love these type of songs more than Gen Z

I actually kind of expected only one or something similar from vcha this like fast paced hyper pop (Im not good at music so that may be wrong) it’s the kind of music they’ve already released

Huh, I agree with a lot but I've never rated D3 as the bottom JYP div. They've always had a well organized, high content style and are good at developing a group's themes ultra-gradually, at least for the first several years. We just haven't seen them debut a group in a long time. I think they have maybe learned some things from watching e.g. D1 promote SKZ with lots of videos per release (I assume that's your best div?) and we're also now seeing Republic execute on a ground game for a new label signing.

Wait, Div 3 is known for being bad? They manage TWICE, who is JYP's most successful group, don't they? But I'm happy that VCHA has been doing well so far. When A2K was airing, I know I wasnt the only one worried about if they would be managed well. I also agree that Only One is their best work so far!!

I don’t think that only one could really have copied Cupid 😭 in the song they say seven billion ppl to love despite there being 8 billion ppl on earth for like over a year, and according to a genius lyric thing, it was prob made before the population reach 8 billion bc the show started months before the population did that so
