Turns out the dumplings are not vegan as one of you pointed out (they include anchovy sauce UGH) and I stupidly missed it in the ingredients list. Sorry about missing that, guys!! :( Just letting you know to not get this brand LOL there are usually other brands of vegetable dumplings that are vegan friendly - but remember to triple check the ingredients list so you don't mess up like i did!

Are you sure it’s vegan @nenny ? I just did a quick search and there was a subreddit that talks about this specific food product and said there are a couple things that aren’t: Sodium guanylate (which is usually sourced from fish) and flavors (which can be sourced from animals?)

According to indomie australia website, Indomie does not contain any meat products or its derivatives (except Mie Goreng Spicy Beef Ribs). It also said that the flavour enhancer are derived from vegetable based ingredients.

Hi Rose Silken tofu is great for scrambled eggs, you can add turmeric for color I like onion and spinach salt and pepper... the trick is to let it cook a little longer than regular to get the extra water out before you add the other ingredients..❤️

Personally, I think once you know how the Korean, Japanese, and Chinese writing systems work it's actually really easy to tell them apart. It might be only because I learned how to read and write Korean and Japanese but I think that Hangul is a very logical and systematic writing system and that it looks very different from the other scripts with its circles and geometric shapes. Also Hiragana and Katakana also have a very distinct appearance.

I always love seeing what vegans pick up from the shop! I find that here in Ireland while veganism is on the rise, it can be tricky to find places that do cater for vegans shopping wise

As a very white person, the way I differentiate between different Asian languages is like this: Chinese languages have characters that are kind of... blocky? Japanese characters are more flowy, and Korean has circles. I don’t know if that’s offensive, that’s just how I learned to figure it out growing up in Queens with lots of different Asian neighborhoods. 🤷🏻♀️

@@midnight3946 Yes, Japan uses three systems of writing and one of them is literally Chinese, except they say them differently. So those two can be harder for people to tell apart, compared to Korean which is technically a language isolate.

I have been enjoying Korean dramas on Netflix. It is so refreshing to see how characters in Korean culture are eating noodles in the storyline, and eating rice, and not obsessing about low carb this and that. Yes, many Koreans eat meat like Westerners, but they also seem to have veggies and more balanced portions. Not to mention, I just love watching the Korean series Crashing Land on You. It is so cute, and Captain Ri is a hottie!

Would love to see the stuff you cook with these, especially the inari and knife cut noodles! Also I love natto, didn't really like it that much the first time cos of the bitterness and slimeyness but the flavour and texture definitely grows on you. I wish it came in more vegan flavours! There's a yuzu one that I've tried that's pretty good and vegan friendly :)

Hi Rose. You got me hooked on Korean food a couple of years ago when I first found your channel and was trying to eat a more plant based diet per my doctor's instructions. We have a lot of small Asian markets in Raleigh, but I had never heard of H Mart until I saw this video. Yesterday I discovered that there is an H Mart about 15 miles from my apartment so I had to go. $130 later, it is now going to be my go to market (even though I work in a grocery store LOL). Thanks for turning me on to Korean food and H Mart.

Laver (noun) an edible seaweed with thin flat fronds of a reddish-purple and green color that becomes black when dry. Laver typically grows on exposed shores, but in Japan it is cultivated in estuaries.

"You know when you think something is vegan but it has a random animal ingredient" a few days ago when I went to the store they were out of basil besides a tube of basil paste, so I shrugged "ehh ok this works" and grabbed it later, when I was preparing dinner I grabbed the basil and put it in the dinner. Whilst it simmered I sat down to read the back "basil, oil, salt, whey, whey? Dang it." It had never occurred to me that they would put whey in herb paste but ok then. 🤷♀️ I dont even know why. Halp, I cant even trust veggies Ps the way I tell between Japanese, Chinese and Korean writing as a English only speaker Korean writing= lots of circles Japanese writing= a mix of complex and simple letters Chinese writing= very complex square- ish letters

Same thing in Germany! We call them "Heiße Maroni" and they are so delicious! The smell is wonderful and they make an excellent snack and we even eat them as a side in bigger meals

As a Japanese person, it’s so funny to see japanese products made by Korean brands. Especially the “u-dong” noodles 😂😂 I hope you can acquire the taste for natto! I live in Tokyo so I always have to buy the ones with fish sauce and I just take the packet out and use my own soy sauce... 😩 wish they had vegan ones here too!!

Have been an H-Mart shopper for over 2 decades! We have a prominent Korean/Vietnamese/Laotian/Chinese community in Philadelphia, PA and the H-Mart is in a plaza with a full Korean/Viet/Chinese food court on the upper level, along with Chinese medicine docs, other random shops.

Korean can be distinguished by the use of circles in hangul, while Japanese and Chinese share many kanji/hanzi together - but the hiragana in japanese script can be used to identify whether the symbols are being used in a context of japanese or chinese language

Hi pretty lady! I’m Puerto Rican but I can tell the difference between Japanese and Korean characters (Thai too). It’s because I live in an area that we call Viet Town and we have lots of different types of foods and grocery stores. I love it! I love learning about different cultures and the foods they like to eat. I also watched a lot of anime growing up so that helped. Hehe.

I didn’t like natto either but after acquiring a 4 pack I learned that if you mix it first THEN add a splash soy sauce, Chinese mustard, green onions, and siracha over hot rice and eat with some avocado. Changed the game! Even my little sister likes it now this way.

Yes, I am happy to say that I can tell the difference between Japanese and Korean writing. I am from the UK and a native English speaker, but have been dabbling for years with learning to speak and read a little bit of Japanese. Love your videos Rose xx

As a Portuguese Canadian, every family gathering in November features roasted chestnuts. We peel them by hand or w a knife. And you can find chestnuts growing in Canada! My local park has a few chestnut trees.

Weirdly enough natto is one of my favorite foods ever, probably because I love anything fermented and I am the least picky person on this planet haha but it's so good I do not understand how people don't like it! It is exquisite on steamed white rice and a splash of soy sauce. I miss eating it so much! I am currently in Italy and It is IMPOSSIBLE to find!!!!! ughhhh!! The lack of Asian grocery stores around here is astounding!!

20:05 I believe that same company/brand makes a vegan kimchi, if I’m not mistaken. The Hmart near me has it. Green lid near the other (non-vegan) kimchi.

Yesssss!!!! I love hmart! Where I’m at (nyc) the prices are so much cheaper then other grocery stores like Stop N Shop. Also @cheap lazy vegan if you look (usually there’s a whole aisle with different types of seaweed and brands) , or ask someone bc there’s always the full sheet roasted seaweed in 3 large squarish packs!!! So yummy!!

Tysm for this video!!! I’m trying to eat more plant-based, and I usually shop at H-mart, and trying to find vegan items can be a challenge. This video is super helpful!!!! As for being able to tell the difference between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese writing, for the most part i can tell the difference between them. I’m not an expert, nor can I actually read any of the languages (although I have tried to teach myself Japanese through workbooks), but I’ve noticed that Japanese, esp hiragana (one of 3 Japanese characters sets, the other 2 being kanji and katakana) the characters are made of very few strokes. Many of the Japanese characters I’ve seen that are made with more than one stroke are mostly straight lines at sharp angles. Korean, on the other hand, I’ve noticed that the characters not only have more strokes, but that many of the characters I’ve seen incorporate more circles and ovals. I’ve noticed that Chinese characters have the most strokes, and contain mostly non-rounded shapes like squares and rectangles. For me, I find it most difficult to tell the difference between Chinese and kanji because, to me, they look very similar. These are just just my observations I’ve made after living in both NYC’s Chinatown and Koreatown, as well as watching anime ( 😂 only with subtitles tho, I dislike the dubs with a passion).

I purchase the seaweed snacks as well for on the go but if I am home just brush nori sheets with a littttttttttttttttttttle sesame oil and/or oil and salt on one side, toast on both sides in hot skillet for 5-10 seconds, tastes just the same and you can make a ton!

I have an app called Soosee that scans the back of the package and it checks for ingredients derived from animal products or ingredients you may be allergic to. Basically what ever you tell it to look for. It is so helpful in the grocery store. I recommend it as it is so much quicker than reading all the ingredients

In Germany they sell hot chestnuts at street stalls around the autumn and winter time, and sometimes around this time you can also buy them in the produce section of the supermarket. I'm not sure if I ever tried them as a child, but since I'm allergic to nuts I stay clear of them now.

Omg!! My Korean grocery haul fantasy!! 😁 Yes those Indomie noodles are vegan... The only ones from that company that are... And you have to do a road trip to Toronto to shop at Galleria... Yum!!!!!!! I'm just lovin' your channel!

Rose, there is a brand of vegan dumplings called Annie Chun. They are really delicious shitake and veggie dumplings. I have found them out here in Nebraska at a regular supermarket so I imagine you could find them there too!

(disodium inosinate) according to Google: is generally produced from meat, including fish and pigs. Though it is normally a non- product, it also may be produced from tapioca starch without any animal products involved in the production. Which the Indomie noodles listed as an ingredient. From Indomie website Most Indomie products sold in Canada marked “export products”.

For the glass jelly, when i was little my mom cuts them up in cube and sprinkle sugar on it. Best to eat cold

I can read Japanese and a tiny bit of Korean so I can definitely tell the difference. I love Pulmone products, they have some pretty great vegan dumplings.

Korean(individualized characters formed by sounds)vs Japanese(characters have more curves, dots, dashes and roundness) vs Chinese characters(typically more square and complex) I can easily tell the difference. I should call out, I am not asian, nor do I speak any of the above and only know like 3 phrases in each. =)

I buy chestnuts whenever I shop at an Asian grocery store. Sometimes they are roasted and shelled and sometimes in the shell. But I love them.

I bought a thing of normal kiwi like that recently for $2.99 in London Ontario for reference. Love seeing many new things!

Great haul! So many things I'd like to try. I am American, but also a lingophile, so I can tell the difference between Korean, Japanese and Chinese writing. I also watch a lot of Korean shows, and some anime. Btw, love the nails, I happen to be wearing the same color right now.🙂👍✌
