I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

Great lesson! I think many of them got confused with that. It is important to know the diiference between gerund and infinitive for some verbs with it. Thanks for giving us those detailed examples and explanation. On top of that, you quiz is really good for us to understand the lesson.

Great explanation. I listen to a lot of Israelis on a weekly basis who make TONS of mistakes such as this when speaking English. This is a common one, "quit to do ____" when they mean "quit doing ____" . Among many, many, MANY other mistakes! Another one is "We have few ____" when they mean "a few". They don't understand (or were never taught) that the meanings are completely opposite. The most common mistake that I hear though is confusing the verb tenses, such as simple present vs. present progressive. I was always under the impression that English grammar is fairly simple, but after studying other languages, I see that our system of verbs is in fact very, very complex by comparison, for they deal with concepts of time that don't exist in other languages. Constant grammatical mistakes really grate on the ears after a while :-/

Sometimes we are confused about which form to use after the verb. I have noted from your lesson that gerund is rather an activity and the infinitive is rather a purpose that you do for the verb that you used before. Am I completely off topic or I am close the reality ? Can I apply this rule whenever I'm confused ?

Can "regret to" be used without verbs like tell or inform? In that case what's the difference with regret+gerund?
@Pronunciationwithemma
@Pronunciationwithemma Жыл бұрын
I regret to... - this is usually used with "say" or "announce" or "tell" (perhaps a few others that I've missed) and is used to mean "I'm sorry to [say/announce/etc]. I regret ...ing - This means you feel bad about doing something in the past. Perhaps you were mean to someone and you're now thinking "I wish I hadn't been mean to them". Hope this helps!
