Every time 8th of November comes on it hits hard!!! RIP Sgt. Kyle (ozzy) Osborn. Kyle was killed in Afghanistan in 2012 and was a member of the 173rd. Didnt know him well but will always be a military brother and that shit hits hard especially when they bring a fallen brother home!

When I was 19, I thanked a Vietnam veteran and he told me that had never been thanked for his service. I was born the same year they broke ground for the Vietnam Wall in DC. He gave me a huge hug and cried on my shoulder. I always try to thank all the veterans for their service, and Korean and Vietnam vets are always so thankful for me thanking them.

I remember that documentary; I could tell that Big Kenny and John Rich clearly had a great time meeting with some of the locals and shopping at one of Vietnam's many floating markets in the Mekong River. Many people who have been to Vietnam are surprised to see that the country is the complete opposite of what they saw back then. Vietnam today is experiencing unprecedented amounts of economic prosperity since the Vietnamese government implemented economic reforms in 1986; with some outside observers saying that Vietnam's economy could be eventually on par with the economies of South Korea and Japan.

The first time my dad was "thanked" by anyone other than family (He was in VietNam) was in 2007, when he was invited to a Veteran's Day assembly at my local elementary school. "My" kindergartener invited him. The school thanked ALL of the veterans and told the audience who they were related to. They called my dad her "Pappy Ray." I saw the tears in his eyes and in the eyes of a few others about the same age.

My husband served in Vietnam in 1968 - 1969. He too was spit on by protesters when he got home. Aside from his family, no one said "Welcome Home" to him. He carried the hurt & anger until 2 years ago when a young man shook his hand & said: "Sir, I want to thank you for your service, welcome home." By then, he was 72 years old. My husband died in December 2021 having never heard this song. It would have meant a lot to him.

Years ago an old Vietnam veteran saw my Navy ball cap, came up to me and welcomed me home. I thanked him and asked if he had served, he said yes, in Vietnam, Army. I then replied “This might be a few years late but, welcome home brother.” He then just walked off, I thought I had done something wrong, but my wife (also a veteran) continued on through the park. Later his wife caught up to us and said “I just wanted to let you guys know that you didn’t do anything wrong. You were the first person to tell him welcome home since Vietnam. We’ve been married 50 years and he had never told me that no one had told him “welcome home”. He walked away because he didn’t want you to see him cry. I just wanted to thank you because you made his day and his year. Thank you.” At this point we parted ways and I had to go and sort of compose myself due to sadness and anger over the treatment with which our Vietnam veterans received upon returning home. You may not agree with a war, but never take that out on the troops. They are just young men doing their jobs. If you are upset over a way, take it to the government who sends our boys and girls to fight and die for something you do not believe in. To all of my brothers and sisters in uniform, thank you for continuing to carry our torch. Carry on and God’s speed.

I have heard young civilians say they just did not understand military PTSD; people see awful things every day. Shallowly for it goes much deeper, this video tells an aspect. Witness to unspeakable violence with icy fear gripping your heart, you stand in the middle of Hell and do what you must do. Then you survive with the survivor's guilt and must live the rest of your life with memories washing over you every time you close your eyes and, for some, even when you're awake. The horror of watching people die around you and having to kill or be killed just cannot be shut off like a light switch though that would be a blessing from God.

My husband was in the Marines back from Viet Nam. They were not treated well by our country. He was requested to move to 1st class. The Veterans treated him like a hero. Everyone bought him drinks. By the time he landed in Boston he was higher than the plane. When I Barrelled into him he managed to stand tall. People clapped and saluted. This was the exception. Not he norm.

My dad would have appreciated The 8th of November by B&R. He served in Viet Nam in 67-68. He developed many health issues as he got older that were common among VN vets exposed to agent orange and died at age 58. He never got the support from the VA like he should have but was never bitter about serving in Nam. I think this will become a classic song and should be shared on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

I really wish you would do something on Shoshana Johnson, the first POW in Iraq along with Jessica Lynch who was rescued and Lori Piestewa, the first female killed in the Iraq War. The older guy in the video is the actual guy this song is about. There is a documentary where Big Kenny and John go back to Vietnam with him and he buries his army boots I think in the spot the battle took place.

Right in the gut !! Brilliant analogy sir, could t have said it better. I am also a vet sir. Flight medic for 18 years with 9 deploymens. Sir in your videos I haven't seen one on Radney Foster, Angle Flight ( radio tower remix) as the title suggests sir as you u we'll know it to is. Punch in the gut. In the subject of our videos I believe this series is so popular with the military communities because your reactions are real and they let us all know that we are not alone in our feelings , beliefs and nightmares ! Thanks for putting it out there and keeping it real ! We salute you sir and give a hug bravo Zulu on a job well done ! Stay safe out there brother and as always " do amazing things" ! Semper Fi and God bless !! HM1 (NAC/FMF) S.R Whitney USN Retired
