Here we go again! It's just as well I'm retired because I wouldn't have time for all this nonsense if I was still gainfully employed.
My 1987 Honda VFR750FH as I explain in the video, has intermittent carburation problems. I'm about to embark upon the process of removing, stripping, cleaning and refitting the carbs. At some stage in this operation I'm going to regret ever having started it, but that's the same with most jobs.
Wish me luck and enjoy Part 1 of what might be an epic adventure.
Alistair.

Excellent video Alistair just bought my step fathers old rc 24 off him 1986 with only 34 thousand odd kilometers on the clock not even 30 thousand mile for bike 4 years older than me 😳 i was always a straight 4 kinds guy never thought I'd see the day where I'd fall in love a vtwin engine the noise she makes when you open her up is something special indeed! Them gear driving cams are a delight really love the white mine is black with thin gold and silver strips down the side very very nice bikes

Thanks for watching niuck. It's been a while since I made these videos but I can tell you that it really was a good job. The bike is absolutely 'on the button' now. Starts perfectly and runs perfectly. Hope you get the same results.

Just finished watching the whole carb series, Alistair and a fine job too. I've just acquired a '94, so have the entire carb adventure to experience (along with a few others). The bike's been off the road 15 yrs with the occasional tickle and despite the thing refusing to run (clogged slow jets so I found) the carb condition doesn't generally look too bad but due to its extended 'rest' period, it'll be getting the full treatment. Thanks again! 👌🏻

Good man Pete. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully the videos will help you along the way. It's always a bit daunting when you're starting to pull things apart and it's nice to be able to see the pitfalls and avoid them accordingly. Good luck!

Thanks for a great video. I'm tackling this same job today on my 86 VFR. Flat spot just off idle so I suspect the pilot jets need cleaning. I was about to stop the video at the end until you said you were going to hoover Jimmy!

Thanks for you comments Simon and good luck with your carb work today. The most difficult part of the job, for me, was refitting the carbs. A new set of inlet rubbers would have made it a whole lot easier I'm sure but unfortunately, my budget doesn't stretch to that. Also, if you're replacing jets etc.. with Chinese parts, examine them very, very closely for compatibility as I got caught a couple of times with wrongly sized jets. Regards, Alistair.

@@AlistairCampbell1047cc oh you sure are lucky be able to get scared the odd time. I had a stroke four years ago and is a little frustrating not to be able to have a bike anymore. Been riding bikes from an early age and basically done what your doing as a past time. That's why I love watching your vids, sure brings back old memories.

Absolutely beautiful bike.. lot better shape than mine. I let mine sit because the fork tubes needs a rebuild and now the carbs need rebuilt but have never taken of a V carb only inline.. thanks for the video this will help me out a lot. How often do you have to work on the carbs? I am trying to decide between a VFR 750 with carbs and a VFR800Fi.
@AlistairCampbell1047cc
@AlistairCampbell1047cc 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Motofiction, hopefully this is a job that I will have to do only once. It was all my own fault in the first place. I left the bike sitting for about two years and the inside of the tank rusted quite badly. This then led to the needle seats not sealing correctly and the carbs overflowing etc... I have cleaned and re-sealed the tank, sorted the carbs and I look forward to no more issues in the foreseeable future.
